When is your rut normally in full swing? What is your general location? I've never hunted the area I'll be in, and have no idea when the rut goes on. Western Goliad County and rut usually is in full swing the week prior to Thanksgiving but can start around the 15th of Nov. Thanks. I'll be hunting eastern Lavaca county for the first time this weekend. Hoping for lots of activity. Great pics by the way. Rut should have started in mid to late October there. Those deer breed early, I looked at ranch with a friend and we jumped a week old fawn in mid April on a ranch in NE Lavaca County. The activity here this year is very different from in the past. We were very dry from mid July to mid October. Lot of persimmons and acorns and when it finally did rain there are winter weeds and young grasses sprouting up everywhere. For the first time in many years the evening hunts are much better than the mornings during the full or bright moon nights. I saw 9 bucks yesterday evening with 45 temps and drizzle then only 2 bucks this morning and it was 33 degrees with very light winds. It was 31 the morning before with drizzle and did not see many deer at all. Thanks and good luck to you on your hunt.

Thanks again everyone. That's stuff I have only seen from a long distance and/or for a short period.
Thank you for sharing those. Most excellent! The first real fight I experienced was up in the Hill Country in 1990 or 91 and it was two mature bucks that fought for almost 10 minutes. They were in and out of road, rested several times then kept fighting. I videoed most of it when they were in the road fighting. I have seen a lot of fights over the past 28 yrs now and most were short and intense. That first one has been the longest one I have seen. I saw one two years ago that lasted about 6 minutes. I have seen a video from the early 90's of 2 mature very good Dimmit County bucks fighting for over 40 minutes. The rolled over cactus, low brush and dirt piles. One buck was eventually flipped up into the air and when he hit the ground that pretty much ended the fight. When he scramble up on all 4's he turned and headed away with the other buck in hot pursuit. They even "rattled" in a very nice wide drop tine 5x5 typical that the hunter never saw when videoing till he got home to show the tape to lease buddies. He would have shot the droptine buck since it was his lease and it was mature.

Great photos! Sometimes I'd rather just watch the deer then shot one.
