I have 6 feeders. Went by all of them Sunday morning about 11:00. Zero tracks from either deer or hogs. I don’t have many acorns but they are all falling now.

Hunted this past weekend on Friday evening (saw 3 does) then was rained out the rest of the weekend. I am going back up this weekend. Stay tuned!
P.S. the BBQ was pretty good in Saint Jo and the breakfast at the Burrito shop was solid.

Where’s the hamburger place? The BBQ and Burrito place were both closed when we went to kill pigs about 10 days ago. We ended up at Dairy Queen.

It’s right around the corner from the BBQ place. It’s cash only! Corner of N Main St and E Church St. It’s not on maps

I know it's been a slow or wet season when the main topic of discussion are the new dining places to eat in St Jo. I'll be hitting those places in a few weeks for sure.
Q: I've been hunting near Nocona Hills for 5 season now. I've spoken to several folks that say the peak rut is in early November and some say right around Thanksgiving. I've seen better activity around Thanksgiving but also have seen rutting activity during late bow and early November. I'm typically in field every weekend from Nov through Mid December, with a few extra days here or there. But this year , due to family commitments - wife surgery, sister having a baby and mother in law coming to stay with us, I have to be a little more strategic on when I can plan to be out. What says the group, if you only only 2 or 3 weekends to hunt (excluding opening weekend - niece is expected to arrive)?

I would hunt weekend before Thanksgiving, and two after personally for rut activity. Or move it up a week. But based on all experience on getting big deer, opening weekend and then a crap shoot. We see good deer on cam right before season and then after Thanksgiving moving middle of day. Really hard to pattern looking at a feeder for big deer after opener up there. Last year all our big deer were shot by neighbors during bow, youth and opener so we didn't get squat. They shot some incredible deer though and happy for them.

Yep, I got a break from the wife. She's going to pick up the MIL over Thanksgiving and I don't have to go. Thus giving me the second weekend through Thanksgiving to get out to the field!

It's going to be a muddy mess. We still have some little spike deer on cam with momma as of last week.

Seen 4 doe and 4 bucks. 3 of the bucks ate together for a while. An 8, 6, 4 and spike. Others guys seen doe and young 8s. Almost got sprayed by a skunk walking in. I ran and sank to my shin in mud. In mud boots luckily.

New 4 pt showed up. Pretty good morning so far. No sign of rut either which is normal this early. The 8 made a scrape.

Just does this morning for me. No signs of the rut yet over here. A little windy today but feels nice to be in the stand.

Spooked a buck walking to stand. Nice 6 and 3 pt came to eat. Saw some bucks far off that looked good. Doe just walked by. Mom probably saw me playing whack a wasp. Front moving in I guess. Rainshaft just popped to the east luckily.

That storm was the first to form that moved into DFW. Pretty cool to watch it form and grow into a line.
Also saw a piggie with a huge herd and a big chase. All of our feeders are getting hit early with young deer. More than I have ever seen. We have a few big ones though on cam randomly. 130 to 145 inch.

Lousy opening day. In the morning I saw a spike and a couple of yearling does. In the afternoon, a yearling doe. I hunted different feeders. In the morning I heard 4 shots, 3 of them were a long way away, and one close.afternoon I heard one shot a long way off.
Don’t recall ever seeing an opener this bad.
About 5 miles South of Bowie

Very cool pics. I’m jealous - I’m in Alabama taking of a newborn niece. But will be hitting the field come next weekend!

Got a young buck pushing a doe around. Grunting and nose down. Hanging at the blind for 20 minutes now in bow range. Literally walking in circles around me. I guess she is ready but both are young. Mature bucks are not showing.

My buddy said it’s been really slow at our place near Capps Corner. Couple of yearlings but not much else.

Just does this weekend up near Capps Corner. Nice pics, I got poured on last night but the weather was really nice for being in the woods.
Hopefully movement picks up the next week or two!
