Those who hunt with crossbows, what broadheads do you recommend? I have been using Rage for the past two years but was wondering if any fixed blades flew like practice tips.

I shoot an Excalibur crossbow and use their Bolt Cutter 125 grain fixed blade broadheads. They shoot really well with my crossbow and same as the practice points.

I normally use shwackers but I did use slick trick magnums on a couple of hogs last year and they fly almost identical to my field points

Excalibur 150gr. Bolt Cutter fixed blade out of my Excalibur Matrix 355. They shoot the same as my practice tips out to 50 yds. I get complete pass throughs at 20yds on behind the shoulder shots. The bolt buries into the ground after the pass through.

I prefer the Muzzy 125 grain 4 blade. They are totally locked in blades, and indestructible. Out of several different bows they all fly like field points, where the 3-blades seem to arc a little down and right.

I'm using Slick Trick 125 gr Xbow Tricks, they fly just like the field points. Muzzy and G5 are also good. I shoot a Matrix 380.

I also shoot the 125 grain Rage expandables. My only shot is under the feeder at 18 yards. I have shot 8 deer in the past 3 years with the Rage and the shortest distance the deer ran was about 30 yards; the longest - maybe 50 yards. Big hole and lots of blood. I will stick with them. They shoot and fly true. All shots were "behind the shoulder" shots (pass throughs.)

Interesting everyone is shooting at least 125 grain. I guess I should go that route instead of 100 grain.

Good choice,.I’m not an expert on crossbows but everything I’ve read suggests more weight up front. Many bolt manufacturers add brass inserts. Since bolts are much shorter and generally weigh less than arrows the added weight gives bolts better flight, stability and penetration down range.

I would go to the crossbow manufacturer sight and see if they have recommendations. If not email them to get their feedback. Some even have forums for their buyers and you can search their sites.

Montec G5. I've shot both 100 and 125. The 125s are better at distances greater than 20 yards. I've also tried the Montec Striker with replaceable blades but prefer the G5. 2 bears, several deer and hogs

I had bad luck with fixed blade thunderhead 125's and Muzzy's couldnt get them to fly anywhere near my field points, or even very consistently arrow to arrow.
Switched to spitfire 125 mechanicals and have had much better luck.
So many variables in crossbow shooting, though, it is hard to guess what any bolt/head/bow combo will do until you try it!

Just like using a compound bow, you have to experiment a little to see what flies accurately from your bow. I've always put accuracy above speed, so using a heavier broadhead will probably solve a lot of problems. I've shot 100 grain thunderheads accurately from mine but again, you need to experiment.

I has been my experience that mechanical broad heads and crossbows are a recipe for disaster.... Yes I know there is a line down the block and around the corner of people who says "I use them all the time and NEVER have an issue!"
But my personal preference for both bow and Crossbow is a fixed 4 blade 100gr for bow and 125/150 for Crossbow.

I tried them once and was disappointed . busted apart on impact. fixed blades are my crossbows friend.

I've shot 1 deer, a decent sized 8pt, with a crossbow. Its rated at 380fps. Using a 20" bolt with a 100gr NAP Spitfire Maxx 3 blade mechanical at 25yds, the arrow zipped right through behind the shoulders and buried in the dirt on the other side. The deer flinched, took about 5 steps then fell over dead. Point of impact is the same as field points.

125 grain Muzzy Phantoms shoot extremely tight in my crossbow, same as field points and they cut like a hot knife through butter.
