Can some one help me with a Colt 1911? I have purchased a Colt 1911 45 trying to find out more information and what its worth.
Has Eagle proof mark. serial number I did look up puts it at 1918. Has Model of U.S Army on slide and United States property on other side of slide. Rampant Colt is on left of slide very back by hammer. Thank you I can text Pictures.

It’s valuable. Could be very, very valuable. Maker is important. Condition is everything.
That’s all I know but someone will give you the skinny.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

The colt at the rear of the slide makes it a 1911 A1. The first generation had the colt between the patten dates. You’ve dated your colt at 1918 which if I recal correctly was the first year of the A1. This will be a 1911 made by Colt. I personally have no idea of the value and the information I just gave you came from memory so by no means facts. Hopefully it will give you a direction to look though.

Go to gunbroker.com, enter in the model and search to get a good idea what it's worth.

Where do you live? Try to find an "expert" who can really tell you what you have. I know a couple here in the Dallas area, one in Houston.
Whatever you do, be careful, as N.P. states above, you may be very lucky and have quite a gun , especially if it is near 100% condition.
