My understanding is it has a thicker jacker than the ELD-X. CBlackall shot a cow elk at 200-ish with a 7mm 162 ELD-M. Dead cow, good sized exit wound.

Come on, everyone knows you can't kill anything with target bullets. Especially an Amax nuts

I take the "can't use match bullets on game" with a grain of salt. I have not used the eldm's on game but a 140
put in the right spot will be fatal. If it were me, I would pick my spot wisely the first time or two and judge my level of satisfaction with terminal performance and go from there.

Cross sectional pictures seem to show that the ELD-X has a thicker jacket and a interlock as well.

I've only ran eldm in 7mm and they performed the exact same as the Amax. I would feel the 6.5 would perform just the same.

I've got no problems shooting a deer or a hog with an ELD-M. It's got the job done for me lots of times in the past.

for me, they're cheaper -> I practice more -> I am more capable of better shot placement on game. In my mind, this is the most important. If you're the type of guy that buys one box of shells in the fall for the entire season...... don't be a cheapskate, buy the ELD-X.

This past season five animals were shot with my rifle using the ELD-M. I shot a coyote at 87 yds, a cow elk at 300~ yds, and a doe at 60 yds. Two buddies used it to shoot a coyote at 220 yds, and a spike at 50 yds. This is with a suppressed, 20” 7-08 running the 162 ELD-M at 2660 fps. All animals dropped where they stood. I chose the ELD-M over the X due to the decreased muzzle velocity from the shorter barrel. I knew the AMAX performed flawlessly, and I was hedging my bets that the ELD-M should perform similarly. There weren’t a lot of in the field reports when I started loading it. I have been thoroughly impressed. The only bullet I’ve recovered was from the elk. It was just under the off-side hide. Perfect mushroom. I have photos, but haven’t figured out how to post them from my iPhone or iPad since the update. The rest were pass throughs with massive internal damage. I think as long as you know the limitations, and don’t try to push them at screaming velocities, they work well.

Great info, I think I can tell my buddy with confidence the 140 ELD-Match will be fine for his Texas deer as long as he hits the right spot. A shot in the azz may not get it done
