Can I pull the end cap (threaded side) of my suppressor and put it in a ultrasonic cleaner used for cleaning jewelry?
Gun #1 has shorter threads than Gun #2. Gun #2 just got back from getting chopped down and threaded and I can't get my suppressor all the way up to the shoulder. I've pulled the cap off and soaked in some Montana X-Treme bore cleaner and scrubbed it with a new, stiff bristle tooth brush. It's seemed to have helped some, but dang....There's got to be an easier way to get the rest of the build-up off.

Yes, that will work. It sounds like the carbon build up is preventing it from going all the way down.

Thanks Chad. I'll give the ultrasonic cleaner a shot. That's exactly what is going on. Gun 1 has been the sole host for this can for over a year now and although the build up doesn't look all that much, these tight tolerances wont allow this one to thread all the way on. I never thought about cleaning the threads since it's worked as it should on Gun 1. Live and learn I suppose.

Yes. You may need to go at it with a pick or some kind of tool to remove all the carbon. The ultra sonic cleaning may get it all, but if there are some stubborn pieces remaining, you'll need to work on it. They also make a thread cleaning kit. It is basically a heavy duty threaded screw that screws on and removes the carbon and straitens up any damaged screws. Use this as a last resort, though.

Sounds good. I'll give the ultra sonic cleaner a go first, then pick at it a bit to see what I can get done. Really just trying to not have to buy a new end cap from SilencerCo. For the size of that little hunk of metal, it sure ain't cheap!

Did you give your suppressor info to your gunsmith prior to cutting the threads? Most suppressors have a thread spec that the threads should be cut to. I wonder if the threaded portion of your barrel is too long for your suppressor.

Get a gallon can of Berryman's Chem-Dip from Walmart or an Auto Parts store and soak the end cap in it overnight. I clean all of my suppressors with this stuff,it's the best way I've found to get the carbon and lead build up out of them.

CLR also works well from what I hear. Just google up the instructions on how to clean a silencer with it. I've heard you need to be careful with ultrasonic cleaners with some materials.

. I did not. I didn't know I was supposed to. I knew rifle 1 had shorter threads than what the suppressor allowed. I have the silencerco harvestor 30 and even after the threads stop, theres plenty of space to allow extra long threads. Rifle 2 isn't that much longer than my first, but long enough to come into contact with the build up. The problem is just a years worth of build up is a lot. Thanks for the tip Txhillbilly. That is a faster solution than the ultra sonic cleaner. I can pick that up tonight on my way home from the office. The ultrasonic cleaner would have to wait until after the weekend. I'm mainly just wanting to do the end cap for now to where I can use it with rifle #2.

BTW brake cleaner wasn't cutting it either. That’s because it’s a suppressor, not a brake.

I can pull the end cap out of my harvestor so it makes it pretty easy. Unfortunately I haven’t gotten to clean it yet. A short notice trip to Houston yielded no time for gun play.
