Anybody else watched it and now want a 1895 Marlin? Same gun that was in Jurassic World as well.
It's a great movie as well for those that have not seen it.
I used to have a 1895xlr and have been wanting another 45-70 for awhile and that shorter barrel 1895 (18.5") may be it.

I’ve always wanted one of the shorter 1895’s. I think they’re just right for a tracking gun.

Wind river was a real good movie but neither made me want one though it would be handy
Fit the WR movie much better than dinosaurs

It's not a long range round anyways and so why not do the compact gun. I just like lever actions so I couldn't help but like it. Of course I need one too. A brush gun in the southern high plains is a necessity

Agreed. I didn't realize it was in Jurassic until I searched the gun to see what model it was. I was impressed with Wind River on the gun side of things for a movie. Yeah they exaggerated the power of the rifle but the gun safety part at the beginning was pretty good.

They love them on the Alaskan peninsula. Compact, powerful, 7 rounds.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Short barrel, enlarged lever loop for gloved hand, stainless, easy to acquire sight/bead, etc.

Had one long before WR movie, I lived next to the WRIR and a short 45-70 has a calming effect on you in BEAR country. Mine is the Alaskan CoPilot.

I have a JM stamped Guide Gun (took the rings off so it is now open sights): I carry it in bear country. With the short barrel (18.5 inch) and open sights it swings better and points faster than anything else I own. Shoots 405 grain Buffalo Bore at 2000 fps - just under 3600 ft-lbs.

A friend of mine is a gunsmith in Alabama specializing in Ruger Single Action customizations- usually geared for heavy “bear” loads as he likes to go to Alaska and bear hunt. Here’s a nice Marlin 44 rifle he currently has up on GB that would be a good bear country lever. Marlin 44

Part of the thing about the Marlin is you can get one fairly cheap. That big horn is nice but it should be at that price. I'd love to have a 1886 but they aren't cheap either.

I’ve always wanted one of those, but no more than I would use it, it’s hard to justify.

But the 460 & 500 can’t be chambered in a Marlin, therefore you have to get the BigHorn. The Marlins, as good a they are, can’t handle the pressure from either of those rounds

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I have no desire for the 460 or 500.
.454 Casull maybe one day and then get a revolver to match but I'll take the 45-70 first.

It’s not for everybody, but I already hunt with the 460 in a pistol and I like it. I’d have no problem shooting the 460 to 200yards on deer or pigs with proper bullet.
