I'll be buying a new ATV at a Dallas area dealership this year. Probably a Yamaha base, bare bones 450 or 700. MSRP is $5999.000 and 6999.00 respectively. This will be my first purchase at an ATV dealership. What's the price expectation? Anything like a car dealership where this is the starting price of negotiating? If yes, what's a reasonable expectation of price % off MSRP?

Tell them what you will be willing to pay and if they won't take it leave and go to the next dealer. Check out the internet and see what the lowest price for what you are looking for is and go from there.

Don't be afraid to shop around and out of area. Its like trucks/cars dealers by one place (cheaper price) maintenance some place close to home. Sometimes a little road trip can save big.

Based on experience, what can a buyer expect to pay off of MSRP, as a %?

Of all the ATV’s I’ve bought, nobody ever negotiates the price. They like to add in extra fees like assembly fee, and super magical clear coats and don’t buy the extended warranty.

Thanks. That's what I had heard. Never bought an extended warranty on anything. I buy new, maintain well, I've never had a vehicle that needed repairs anywhere close to the cost of the piece of paper they were trying to sell me. It was $299 for my 2004 Honda Foreman. It didn’t cover the front wheel bearings that failed within the first 200 Miles, but did cover a new head gasket. Oddly enough, the wheel bearings would’ve cost $600 at the dealer and the head gasket was $225 installed.

I've never seen a dealer move much if at all off of their advertised price....but I've seen dealers advertise vastly different prices, so definitely shop around. I saw prices vary as much as 15-20% on my UTV.
I didn't buy an extended warranty, either, but went with a Mule with a 3 year warranty vs. a Ranger with a 6 month. No brainer. Not sure what kind of warranties come on ATVs but I'd shop manufacturers for that as well.

When I bought my Kawasaki Mule last year, I negotiated 11.5% off MSRP.

Get out of the dfw a little and you will most likely save money. My dad bought a ranger a few months back and ended up buying it in Tyler at broadway power sports. Paid less there than he would have out of state and not paid taxes. Bad thing buying out of state you can’t title it which to me isn’t a big deal but to some it is. Basically a fancy bill of sale.

Second antlers motor sports in antlers ok just bought my 2 nd ranger. They actually take care of the title work now and you just give them $25-38 and that’s it then you’ll get a title in the mail or the lender will get it.

I bought my Pioneer almost 2 years ago.
I started on the internet and emailed as many dealerships as possible and asked their OTD price for the machine that I was looking for. I couldn't believe the difference in prices between dealerships. I narrowed it down to 2 dealerships and began haggling with them through email. Neither really budged on MSRP. They both had fees like assembly and delivery. That is where they moved some. Also, I got them to throw in a windshield and a roof. MSRP on mine was $9999 and I paid $10,600 OTD.
With that being said, I never checked OK and my buddy bought one a few months later and paid far less than I did.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

Definitely Oklahoma! I saved $1K compared to several TX dealers and it wasn't an expensive machine to begin with.
Oh and get a Honda! Thank me later

Best deals you will get are oct-nov when dealers are trying to liquidate that years inventory. I bought a pioneer 500 with windshield and hard top roof and a foreman 4x4 base for 12.5K. Salesman told me same thing you're hearing about negotiating but I know better. In the end the general manager got involved and was trying to find any way to knock off money (rebates, cash back incentives, etc) Do your research and know what other dealers are asking OTD, go to your local dealers and tell them what you can get it for and that you're will to make that drive if need be but that you'd rather give your business to the local dealer. It doesn't always work but the more knowledgable you are about prices/options/etc the better chance you have to bring the price down to at least match competitors. Also the more serious you are about buying very soon or now and not just kicking tires makes a huge difference too. Prices on tags are useless if they gave everyone who came in or called a discount just because they showed up and asked.
