Starting to look for what glass I’m going put on my 30 Nosler that should (hopefully... cough, cough... TriggerTime?) be finished up this week.
This is going to be a dedicated hunting rig for Elk (2019) and plains game (2020) — with shots on game from 100 yds to 600 yds. Wanting compact MIL/MIL scope with good FFP reticle for low (3x) magnification to mid range (18x)
Any new scopes coming out?
I’ve been looking at NF atacr 4-16 Leupold mark 6 3-18 Sig tango6 3-18
Would love some input

30 Nosler Tikka Action Proof sendero light at 26” Manners eh-1a
For scope I’m wanting a balance of accurate tracking, good glass, lighter weight, usable across wide range of magnification (low and high).

I really like the TANGO4 construction, controls, and glass (just messed with the 4-16x44 a few days ago). I assume that TANGO6 would be similar/better. Dunno anything about the Leupold and NF scopes. Best of luck in your search, I hope you find something that fits perfectly. Hope to see pics of your new rifle soon, sounds like it looks really good, if that makes sense

NF ATACR 4-16X is my vote.
When you come out for load development look through my 5-25X version, and feel the turrets. Plus, of course, it's tough as boot leather.

You may ask the Tract guys if they are coming out with some long range reticles. The glass and weight in the current toric are very nice. The gay gray color is not that great unless your rifle is. I was told they might have something coming or they were working on it.
Don't forget the DSC show is in a few weeks. A great time to look and hear what's coming.

NF seems to be the go-to for everything you listed except weight, it's 30 oz.

I'm in same boat as you. I'm going lightweight, so looking at Swarovski Z6 or Leupold HD6. I think I'm going to wait till after SHOT to see what's NEW on the horizon. I wont need it till this summer. Trigger Time is an artist and artists need their rest. You cant hurry perfection

I would add the new leupold mark 5 to the list.
I am in a similar boat. I am going to make a creed gasser as a primary gun for hunting and range.
Originally I was thinking the mark 6 but most reports have them being lower optically. Then I was thinking atacr 4-16 and was worried about 16 being enough magnification for the few times I am at a extended range. So I was thinking Amg. But I don’t know.
As of right now I am looking heavily at the 4-16 atacr with new mil c reticle. The majority of my shoots will be inside 600ish and I think a 4-16 fits in nicely there. It may struggle on a few shots but not a lot for me. Also nightforce is known for good glass. I just want to get one in my hands and feel it.
In the end it’s a balancing act. Which set of features feels right to you.

you don't "high" magnification for long range.. you need good glass and solid adjustments. a great 3-12 will let you hit clay pidgeons at 1k

thanks for the feedback. I’m going to put my Tangent Theta 5-25 on it until I figure out what I want. Though about doing the TT 3-15 but not sure I can justify the cost of owning two Tangents

Cleric,
16X in a NF would get a guy all the way down my range. And the Mil-C is bad to the bone! I just had a Police Sniper team out today. All of them loved the Mil-C reticle, and are going to try to convince admin they need new scopes.
Yes, Nightforce toughness, great glass, very accurate, and repeatable turrets. I have nothing bad to say about the one I've had since April.
About an hour ago I went cold bore at 600, shot number two at 700, shot number three at 800 (1MOA steel). I dialed those, and the scope did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Agree which is why I am leaning towards the 4-16. 98% will be inside 800 yards. Due to some potential new travel for work, I may have an opportunity to go beyond 1200 I stopped by a dealer and held both a 5-25 atacr and 6-24 amg. The night force felt stouter

In the end it’s a balancing act. Which set of features feels right to you. The Mark 6 is still really nice. The glass isn’t blown away by NF either. It’s better than the NXS line and just slightly edged by the ATACR line. In fact it’s close enough two people behind them could have different views about whether Mark 6 or ATACR is better optically. NF overall likely tracks better though even though original tracking bugs seemed to have been worked out on Mark 6. I have a Mark 6 on my LR hunting rifle for the overall package fitting my needs, weight being a concern.

Optically it’s very hard to compare as there is too much variation in lot to lot of glass, eye to eye of person, and environment (sunlight, cloud cover, dusk, etc) I am interested to see the new mark 5 turret as it looks new. In terms of size/weight the mark 6 is very nice
