I'm glad this thread came up. I keep thinking i need to ai something. Have I mentioned 7mm-08 A.I. and a 162 gr? What velocity are you obtaining with the 162 in the 7-08 AI? 24" 1:9" makes 2822 MV.

Spencer's 280 A.I. shoots a 169 gr 28 fps faster than the 7mm-08 A.I. shoots a 162 gr. On a long action, with a significant heavier powder charge...

I remember watching a coyote - all four legs up in the air, after I sent a 115 from a 7 RM thru the back of his neck, about 120 yards, thru a 9x before losing the sight pic in recoil. Also remember the same, as a crow heading to the ground as I sent a 55gr via a Swift. Perhaps you should dabble in the Ultra-Fast No doubt your AI is cooking. I made a few loads in the 160 range with a 7/08 thru a 22" M70 using H414, and surely that powder was not what it needed to get the speeds to potential vs what today's powders offer. I guess I was running around 2600ish, it was not impressive as trajectory suffered. Another 200+ is getting things straightened out a good bit.

Plane Jane ole 280 Rem from my 23 inch barrel pushes the 175gr ELD-X at 2850.

update....my 308 go gauge arrived and I used it as a no go gauge on the 260 AI and it worked great, bolt would only move a bit less than 1/4. With the taped 260AI go gauge it closed a bit less than 1/2 of the way. Double checked and bolt closes fine on 260AI go gauge. Barrel is torqued to 50 ft-lbs.
