Good afternoon.
Someone offered to sell me a Bowtech Patriot VFT for very very cheap. I'm tempted. Problem is, it has a broken string.
Would yall buy it?
I'm asking because I know very little about bows.
I've been thinking of getting a used compound bow (for very cheap) to practice in the back yard.

have the person meet you at the bow shop and get them to check it out before you buy. You will have to go there to get the string replaced anyway if you buy it.

No I wouldn’t buy it because it will always be in the back of your mind when shooting it. But if it’s for a really cheap price then look to see how much a new set of limbs would cost you and swap them out.

I would not. Even cheap, you could be buying someone else's problems. What happens when you find out it has a cracked limb from when the string broke? Is this the one you are buying? https://houston.craigslist.org/spo/d/bowtech-patriot-vft-compound/6324906030.htmlIf it is only $15 for the string, which I have never heard of a bowtech string being that cheap, then why doesn't he go get a new string and charge $15 more?

I wouldn't. There are too many things that could be damaged that you can't see, and they're all potentially dangerous.
Edit: That is, unless you're willing to replace the cams and limbs. The riser should be fine.

If I got it checked by someone I trusted and the price was low enough that I could replace the limbs, cams, string and cables I might if the cost was low enough that I could replace all that plus limb pockets and rockers and still. Pretty much it would have to be about the price of a riser for me to consider it. And it would have to be a bow I liked in the first place. throw Axels and spacers into the mix as well, have seen bent axels on dry fired bows.
In other words doubt I would buy one, and I inspect some from time to time for others. I have seen some not show a problem with the limbs until after 50 or more shots after a dryfire and a few that the limbs cracked so you could find it after just drawing it back after putting on new string and cable. Sometimes there is internal stress fractures with the limbs that cannot be seen or felt until they rear their ugly head.
