Me,my oldest son,my Dad, and our good friend all went on our first Sandhill crane hunt this weekend. We had a great time.

I use to go door knocking around Stanton and Big Spring and folks would give me permission to hunt them. Fun to hunt and good table fare. if someone thinks they are a ribeye then your butcher need shot! They are like big dove to me and I enjoy dove meat so I would pass on eating them. Looks like you had great hunt!

Maybe not ribeye , but they do make a nice chickenfried steak, on par or better than good venison backstrap , IMHO.

Every few years we will have a guest that wants to shoot one. I've had them several different ways and have yet to taste anything that wasn't horrible. Maybe I'll just try it raw next time.
