Out checking cameras on family land North of Denton tonight with my Son in Law. We leave his car inside one of the gates and drive the property in my truck. Someone busted his window out on private property and stole a Howa 22-250 that my cousin gave he and my daughter as a wedding present. Not a real expensive rifle but it is the principal of the thing. Freaking meth head thieves!!! Please PM me if you hear someone selling a rifle too cheap. It has a green synthetic stock and a piece of camo tape around the scope. In the end it can be replaced but still sucks bad!!

Car has dark tint and the gun was in a black case on the floorboard in the back seat. I would have liked to catch them in the act, not to shoot them, $500 is not worth someones life to me, but a beat down and hog tied in the tall grass with the chiggers until the cops got there would suffice.
What brings people to the point they think they have to steal to survive? I just don't get it. I was on here begging for people to come to work at a good job with insurance and only got 2-3 inquiries. There are jobs here in DFW, no need to steal. I guess that requires honesty and hard work though...

I hate thieves and they will get there's.
About you posting on here for a job and not getting responses speaks of those who come "on here." Most are responsible citizens/hunters and have a job.
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

VERY TRUE statement! Hunters and fisherman are salt of the earth in all but a few cases! Did not mean my statement in a derogatory way toward the people who come to this sight or the fishing forum. I am simply expressing frustration and kind of hoping there is a chance that someone runs across a deal on a HOWA 22-250 that sounds too good to be true and helps us ultimately bring whomever did this to justice. I know it is a long shot but I feel like this community is tight and willing to help each other out!

NOPE that was not the SIL fault period. He was the victim of a crime. If that rifle was laying on the hood, he was still the victim on private property. The blame is 100 percent on the perp...probably not his first theft either.

Lost a handgun to a break-in at a park-n-ride years ago. Actually broke off door handle. Grrrrr. But, you did report the theft to county/city law enforcement, with serial number, right? I also put my loss on hotgunz.com Don't know who all the pawn shops run weapons through to determine hot or not.
Hate a gun thief-

Your SIL's homeowner insurance may cover the loss. When I lost tools to a truck break-in many years ago, my homeowners insurance covered them. I seem to remember it being a matter of loss of property usually kept in your home.

Yes we reported it to the Denton County Sheriff dept. who sent a deputy to the scene. We have substantial evidence including DNA from where they cut themselves when they broke the window, the tool they used to break the window, tire tracks, etc., and we did report the serial number. The police have been great and if the person is caught I would think that there is enough evidence to get a conviction.
I am taking this as a warning and I will be pulling every gun out of my safe, photographing and logging the serial numbers of each. If you haven't done so, I would encourage you to do the same, this seemed to be the most important thing to the police officers at the scene.
It is just sad that people sink to the point where they feel desperate enough that they need to steal and damage other peoples property.

I hate thieves and hope whoever did this, falls crotch first into a pile of fire ants. Don't lose hope. We had a firearm stolen, and 5 years later it was recovered.

If you haven't done so, I would encourage you to do the same, this seemed to be the most important thing to the police officers at the scene. It took some time, but I tracked down the year (and month when possible) that each of my firearms were manufactured since it can make a difference in value. Guns are one of those few things that can increase in value over time.

I like the fire ant idea above. Thieves deserve it. What about chiggers though?

We have a really great crop of chiggers, if the perp was wearing shorts and or flipflops... they are really itchy right now! I wore running shoes and jeans out there yesterday and was out of the truck 10 minutes to fill a feeder and got chigger bit on my feet. They are hungry little suckers!

photographing and logging the serial numbers of each. If you haven't done so, I would encourage you to do the same, this seemed to be the most important thing to the police officers at the scene. Save photos and serial numbers in document form, then convert them to a pdf. Print and keep in safe deposit box. I also have a simple list with make, model caliber and serial number that is on file at our insurance agent's office. The same lists are also made pf other valuable items.
