I have been reviewing the gun trading forum and noticed a trend toward getting rid of odd and wildcat calibers rifles/pistols. Seems like we are moving back to the old tried and true calibers like .223, .243, .308, .270, 30-06 and 30-30. In pistols it seems we are going back to 38/357, 9mm and 45 ACP. Anyone else notice this movement or is it just me.

I don't base wildcat popularity off the THF classified , there are many other forums that have a heavy wildcat backing - those seem to be going strong

If I were a reloader I'd have some wildcats. Since I'm not I have to stick with what's available over the counter

This is the hunting forum. I think this time of year a lot of guys need to come up with some cash to get their deer lease in check. They sell the gun they shoot the least or that costs the most to shoot. So they sell the wildcat calibers.

Where do you get "going back" from what is for sale? I looked at it too after I saw this. Mostly .243 .308 and .300wm for sale. None of which are wildcat calibers at all.

I didn't really understand Chad selling his 7-300 just to build another. I'm assuming the new one will be different in profile or intended use.

I'm assuming the new one will be different in profile or intended use. fair question my answer, if you follow me (Buzzsaw) everything I have is for sale. I like the newest stuff out there but I'm a manufacturers dream. I call myself an "all day sucker". Right now I have my perfectly good killer Benelli Super Black Eagle II for sale because I want the new SBE III which many are saying is not as good as the SBE II. I keep threatening to sell my Mcwhorter 6.5 Weatherby......then I shoot it and it goes back in the safe. Its a "wildcat" no problems with it. I have a brand new Dan Wesson Specialist I bought, it sits in the safe never shot. Its a "wildcat" no problems with it. The reason used, high dollar guns aren't selling good, is most want to design and commission their own custom build, This is a HUGE part of spending your $10,000 on your dream package. anyway, I do kinda agree, some are going back to the tried and true. I'm thinking about going back to a revolver for everything just because they are 99.9% reliable.

I have 1 .40 S&W left, going back to 9mm and .45 ACP. I've been messing around with my .45 Colt too. Love that round.
ETA - For some reason here lately I've been getting interested in .243 Win. all over again.

Don't know why but I bought it but a Stevens 325C bolt action 30-30 with open sights. I like shooting it at the range. Small handy rifle I am refinishing the stock on. Not sure I'll even hunt with it. Just different.

Not sure I'll even hunt with it. Just different. You may be very pleasantly surprised at how well the gun shoots... The gun is a sibling to the Savage 340 and they were the forerunners to the Savage 110.
