When I built this all I had was an old rung ladder off of an old fuel tank It was straight up and dangerous as heck getting into especially in the winter with a rifle over your shoulder. I had a close call falling backwards once. I finally got some time last month and designed some steps with 3 inch purlin I was going to put a handrail on one side but after installing them they are so stable I don't think I'm going to put the rail on

thanks guys.. I didn't want to start another year without better steps I'm getting my bottled water, propane bottles and supplies ready. About 2 weeks prior, I set off a small bug bomb in all of my blinds just to make sure no creepy crawlers are hanging around

I like it!
Never thought about using a bug bomb in stand before. Sometimes there is a surprise waiting for you in the stand when the sun comes up!

Couple things:
1. those could be very slippery when wet so if possible put down some sort of traction sticker or something on them to give grip.
2. getting out of the blind is going to be tougher than you think. With no hand rail there you will be fishing for that first step some. If possible, I would make the hand rail and extend it up to the blind itself so you have something to grab when your first foot is fishing for that step.

I definitely agree with TX Buckeye. You have got to have yourself a handrail. That's an 8 foot fall on top of rocks. Coming down will be very dangerous!

Also, on just inside the door of the blind , I have two grab handles installed on the door frame This is there you grab hold when going into and out of the blind. When you are stepping down, you back out on your knees and you can hold onto the handle until your feet hit the first step.

Still would do a hand rail. As one who has gone through surgery and rehab for a.broken leg... better to be safe.

Those will be slippery even with morning dew or frost. Make sure you put something on them for traction. I think buckeye's idea about a rail is also a good idea. My friend built some with wider purling and they were very slippery.

Put a handrail on man. You can't be to safe, and it wont be in the way of anything. Plus if you bring a kid or any guest and something happened you would hate to see them fall.

Agree on the rails. In the dark those will not be easy up and down.

I bought some stick on treads for my purlin steps into my blind. When it freezes they are very slippery but i have not put them on yet. 1 They have stickum to adhere to the steps i will update after I stick them on the steps and there is a freeze and see how well they work!
