Look at the top of that truck (the lights), it's the wardens truck. He already counted birds and gave the ok to pile them.
Cliff?

Yes, he stopped by just as the hunt was winding down. We're very lucky to have a guy like Cliff here in Stephens County.

Yep, one of the best younger GW's out here. Congrats on the harvest. Our dove lease is east of you outside Graford - not many birds out this way but only 35 minutes from the house so can't complain!

Had an absolutely fabulous hunt with Double Barrel Outfitters out of Coleman. 2 days hunting, everyone got limits, including myself. Both days. They feed us great, catfish first night, steak second night. Employees & their families were great. Never been called sir so much in my life. Definetly put us on birds.

Took a four day weekend to hunt in Red River County, usual tradition. Saw very few birds. Out two of us hunting 3days only took 7 total. Maybe in a few weeks we'll try it again, or maybe not.

Hunt 4 days in a row: 1st morning got limit; 2nd morning got 7; 3rd afternoon got 1; 4th morning got 2. I think I could forget dove for a while. May check out few weeks later. Btw, I hunted at public land.

Probably 75% of all the birds killed this weekend were White Wings, never had so many before.

Very nice. You must have seen Cliff just as he got back from being in the Houston area. We spoke to him, and he was still down South.

Went Friday afternoon just west of Gatesville. Hit the field about 3:00 and thought I swas going to melt. 95 degrees, zero wind and set up looking towards the west so no shade. But I had hunted here before and had a pretty good idea of where to set up. I limited in about 2 hours, then went looking for shade and cold beer. Saturday afternoon we went to a different spot about 10 miles up the road that I had never hunted before. Took a guess on where to set up and it didn't work out too well. Got 10 and lost a couple in the overgrown sunflower field. Most of the crew limited. Also got a nice dose of chiggers for my efforts. Went back to that same field Sunday afternoon but we only had 3 hunters. Didn't see nearly as many birds, but I got to sit in the shade and still got 10 on a very leisurely hunt. Decided to give it a rest on Monday and didn't hunt. All in all a pretty good weekend. Killed a few birds, saw a lot of old friends from out of town, drank mucho cold ones and ate like a king.

Hunted Fri morning around Snyder. Less doves than normal but most of the 5 of us limited. I wasn't on the best spot in the field but made it work. I noticed after the hunt that I went through exactly a box of shells for my limit. We had quail around us all over the place. The land owner has done a lot to the habitat and you could see the results. Was awesome to hear and see.

Headed to our lease Fri afternoon around Seymour. Didn't see much flying so we had low expectations for the next morning. Headed to the "dove pond" Saturday morning slightly tired and dehydrated thanks to beer, college football, and no need to hunt Fri afternoon... and it started slow. Around 8 am we got a nice surprise - the draw that the pond is in a white wing flyway. Waves of them coming from town to the fields on the other side of us. Ended up getting a limit of 14 WW and 1 mourning but I admit it took way over a box of shells to get there. Sunday morning the pattern shifted. They got smart, maybe someone was hammering them wherever they were going, or something. Only got a handful, but had a great weekend with my son.

Hunted a couple of hours this morning thinking the cool front would have them flying. I only seen one, this is my usual dove spot in northeast Tx. Worst start of a season we have had so far, most of the time we can't reload fast enough. Idk.

Stil not seeing many dove. Drove from Graham to Knox City this morning and didn't see many on any of the fields. I did see more white wings flying over my tank last night than I've been seeing.

Hope y'all got some good shooting opening day. I traveled to Bates County Missouri to hunt with my 3 brothers and 2 nephews. It was disappointing this year. Farmers haven't started cutting silage or shelling corn because it has been too wet up there this year. The growing season was delayed because of wet weather this spring. Some of the corn was still green. We did find one farmer that had cut one section of corn and we hunted that field for two days. 6 guns shot 24 birds over 3 days. Got checked by the game warden there. He concurred that the doves haven't started their migration yet. However a strong cold front yesterday morning dropped the morning temp to 48 degrees. Hopefully that will get the migration moving. I'm going to Ponder this weekend to check out a place a buddy found up there. Wish me luck!

Took a drive this morning, birds are thin here after the front, hopefully more push in but I doubt it with this south wind. Looks like it may be thin here till we get another front.

Note: This is the strangest year I seen in a while for Doves. Harvey pushed a few south when the north wind was blowing, and now a decent front after the opener has pushed more out and not pushed anything in. Can't remember getting down to 53 in the mornings this early in season. Going to be interesting to see what the rest of season holds.
