On a heavy recoiling rifle I prefer steel personally.

No, as long as the design is solid.
Aluminum does hard, heavy work every day. The 75 foot ladder on my fire apparatus is made out of aluminum to reduce weight, significantly from a steel ladder (3500 pounds lighter) and I've trusted my life to that aluminum more times than I can remember.
Talley Tactical is an aluminum ring that comes to mind. The design is extremely strong, and reliable. Obviously they are lighter than steel rings.

EGW aluminum has held up just fine for thousands of rounds on multiple rifles, for me.
Inexpensive, fit, and MADE IN USA.

Sounds like a sweet rig. What scope are you putting on it?

I use an inexpensive EGW base and inexpensive SWFA aluminum rings on my Tikkas and they make tiny groups and hold zero just fine.
If I was shooting a 300WM, I might be more willing to spend more on stuff like rings/bases.

"Calling Rifle" ???
You're as bad as me:
1. Hunters Rifle match rifle, for JG's 2. Long Range hunting rifle 3. Shorter range hunting rifle 4. metallic Silhouette, F-Class rifle
and on and on it goes, don't think I could ever get along with just one. I was able to cull 3 center fire rifles this year but added one back in the herd
Sounds like a neat project BIL. It's a Tikka, its gotta be good.

Won't matter what you use as long as it's more timed instead of all long distance , doesn't matter what you use as long as you beat kyle

On a really big boomer id preffer a steel rail, but almost all the good aluminum rings have steel at the contact point of the rail. On a 223 egw standard rail would be more than enough.
