I have a CZ 455 Heavy in .17 HMR that shoots lights out. Love that rifle.
I don't have nor have I ever used a RAR so I can't comment on it. I hear they are decent rifles.

Can't help with the Ruger. Have CZ-452 in both 22Mag and 17HMR, excellent shooters with very good triggers and 3x9 scopes. Consistent 1-1.5" groups at 100 yards. That said, I have a NEF single shot with old Redfield 6X scope and fine lines which will shoot circles around both of them. Ragged 10-shot group the size of a quarter, clean or dirty, hot or cold. With the 20 gr 17HMR, I kill coyotes at 200 yards no problem.

I have the RAR target version in .22lr. I posted some target photos here: http://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbth...et_#Post6729720 That was when I first got it. Since then I've found some other ammo that shoots about as well as the CCI standard velocity target. Mostly use it for plinking at the lease. Works plenty well enough for that.

I only have CZs. A .22 in 452 and a 17 in 455. Both shoot excellent. I would like to get a 22 mag some day just to have one but I would always get a 17 first because of its performance.

I had a CZ in 17 HMR that didn't shoot well at all IMHO. Of those, I'd go with the Ruger. But the CZ did feel very well made and most folks report very good accuracy from them.

Buzzsaw, been thinking about a quality bolt in the price range of these two models.
200 yds on yotes is impressive. Can anyone comment on meat damage on small game like tree squirrels and rabbits using the 22 mag and 17 HMR? Thanks for all replies, good info, welcome others.

I much prefer anything CZ over Ruger in a rifle.

Not trying to knock you Blank, but maybe this is my problem. My expectation for a $500 bolt action gun in 17HMR is better than 1.5" at 100 yards. That's about what my CZ would shoot, which I thought was dreadful. If you're buying it as a hunting gun, obviously that's fine. But just about any modern firearm is plenty adequate for hunting (and plenty are cheaper than CZ). I thought the reason to pay extra for a CZ was for accuracy. But if the folks who love them are happy with 1.5" groups in a 17HMR, then maybe our guns are all the same and the expectations are just different. I had a Savage in 17HMR as well and never could make it shoot decent either, so I went back to centerfire and the small groups returned. Maybe me and rimfire just weren't meant to be.

I have seen lots of folks say that they're shooting groups with their Marlin/Savage rifles that they can cover with a dime at 100 yards. My experience with rimfire has not been that good.

Most accurate rimfire I have ever shot CZ 452 in 17 Mach II, Now if Hornady would get off their butts and make more ammo for it would be very nice

Thanks folks. P-07 - to me, an ideal round for say 100-300 yds would be a 17 MK4, 222 or 221 with light bullets zipping. The last two push 40s around 3600-3700 and bughole with good loads, Lil Gun works well

Shot my smallest group evr with that rifle at 1/8 inch center to center

I ended up selling it and getting a 223, which I had a blast with even out to 300-400. But I'm wanting to extend out a bit more now and decided to go to a 6.5. All that to say - range guns that shoot 1.5 MOA are completely uninteresting to me. I expected better from the "high quality" CZ. It did feel high quality, but it didn't shoot like it, especially compared to my 223 and 6.5.
