Have any of you noticed a majority of the draw hunts take place during the week?! Seems a bit odd to me.

Been that way for years. I was told it was done to cut down on overtime. I understand doing it in the middle of the week at state parks. But doing mid week hunts at WMAs seems like TPWD doesn't care about ordinary working type hunters.

As long as I have been doing Lottery Hunts, since I was drawn for the 1st tie in '99 despite putting in for App's the previous couple years, they have always been a mid week affair...I always got the feeling that it was to not interfere with the SP's weekend camper & day use traffic that pay the bills ...and no explanations for the WMA's mid week Hunts except habit or common payroll scheduling by senior staff in Austin.

I know that the guy at Garner ran us out couple hours early by a side exit so the campers would not see eekkk guys in camo who could be ugggg Hunters, 'cause the campers from out of state were honking their horns to be let in earlier than posted and stacked up waaay deep ...and why I'll never go back to Garner except as a day tripper or camper...

The hunt my son was drawn for (youth hunt) has two of the hunt days during the school week... bad scheduling.. so he will miss some sittings.. bad scheduling or lack of concern for the kiddos.

Are you sure about that? All the youth hunts I've seen are on the weekend.

Unless its a typo on the form and the permit is wrong too..... Youth Gun Deer E/S Devils River SNA Dan Allen Hughes dates are taken from booklet and permit.....

If I keep him from school he will miss two days of finals study group- finals are on that Thurs/Fri.

Two other hunts I see contain a weekday or two.. youth exotic

I see. That hunt is over the weekend but is longer than normal. You could do the hunt and leave early. I'll bet that's what most of the groups will do anyway.

Gonna prob let him hunt Monday morning.. but miss the eve and Tuesday.. stinks though for him anyway.

Usually, when youth hunts are during the week, it's during Christmas break or even around Thanksgiving.
The other hunts have always been during the week, with one or 2 being on a weekend. Been putting in these hunts going on 30 yrs.

Are the kids not out of school for Christmas break then?

No Sir, it is right. Josh got drawn for youth deer at Atlanta State park his freshman year. Couldnt go because it was Tues, Wed, and Thursday and he had semester exams. Of course it was my fault. When I applied I assumed the hunt was on a weekend, they always had been before.

Less traffic. Certain units in CO are closed on weekends so general public doesn't see fluffy goats or sheep rolling down mountain.

No, Christmas is the next week and New Years follows... I thought maybe the state thought they were off, not sure.. I just missed the dates I suppose.. I saw it started on a Sat. but didnt notice it went to Tuesday. We will still have fun though.. Hope I can guide him to success at Devils River.

Yeah, I really wish they would put the hunts over the weekends. We do pay for it and I am sure there are enough hunters that get picked to make up the difference. Austin folks need that bling bling to pay for all their weird....

It sometimes goes the other way. My main workdays are Friday Saturday and Sunday so the timing is a blessing for me. However someone did drop the ball at TPWD when they made these youth hunt dates it sounds like. Those should definitely be on the weekends for the kids.

Depends on the school district. Our district and a lot of the ones around me have Christmas Break starting on the 15th, but others don't get out until the 22nd.
