Every now and then I NEED fried jalapeņo slices. Lots of places offer fried pickles, but I want the jalapeņos. George's has the jalapeņos, bless em. So does Willie's Icehouse on University in College Station.

Well trip advisor let me down.....number two place to eat in Waco is Torchy's. It must have gotten that ranking from rich Baylor kids that are nearby. My daughter and I tried it out a couple of weeks ago and lets just say it was a big let down! Here is the review I left for them.
Reviewed 3 weeks ago
via mobile We left hungry! Considering this was ranked #2 on T/A I thought we would check it out. I was very disappointed in the prices and drinks. I ordered a &4.50 taco and a $7.50 burrito and left still hungry! The taco was good but was a small tortilla with lightly filled ingredients. The burrito was a large tortilla but was folded about 3 times with mostly bean/rice filling. My daughter and I ordered the same things and so we had two small tacos and two burritos plus drinks and the cost was over $30! Now onto the drinks..... the sweet tea was terrible and the colas available were from Mexico. My daughter said it was a "hipster" thing. I tasted a couple of the colas and didn't like the unique tastes of them. So we drank water, which was ok but they probably charged us $5 for two drinks! I asked a waitress if they had regular Coke but was told no. They do have a bar inside so maybe the fountains drinks are so bad so more people will order beer and alcohol? I guess all the " hipsters" are giving this place a high rank but for the average "Joe" you will probably be as disappointed as me!

It's a chain store thing. I try to avoid most chain stores with few exceptions.

We tried them in East Texas and found them wanting. Ill make us some good queso right here next time you're over and save the fuel money for beer. I'll take you to Casa Torres.

I eat at Torchy's regularly. If you order off their "secret menu" that's available online you can get some really good tacos. I don't like their fountain drinks either. I take my cup to the fountain station, fill it with ice, then go to the bar and ask for Coke. They have actual Coke and Sprite at the bar for the drinks.

I like Torchys and I like Mexican coke. I'm not a hipster same here. Taqueria Zacatecas, 2311 LaSalle Avenue, just off the circle. Food is way better than Torchy's and the tacos don't cost nearly five bucks each like at Torchy's.

I mainly prefer a simple street taco, but every now and then I want something tricked up and Torchy's delivers. They also have the best queso I've ever had. Thanks for the tidbit on Zacatecas though since I have a Torchy's here in Allen if driving through Waco I would much rather hit up a spot that I don't have here.

To each there own......I guess I was expecting a normal Mexican place with velvet pictures and pretty senoritas serving us. We also ate at Heitmillers (spelling) and I got enough CFS to make two meals out of it! I liked the atmosphere. It wasn't the best CFS I have ever had but was an enjoyable place to eat. I will go back next time I am in Waco.
thanks
