genetics are good. protein is not the only thing. age plays a huge factor. deer will want to eat 60 % of their food from forage. that being said protein is only a supplement. I feed protein because I want to. I have for many years. I know the weight of the does and my fawn survival is better because of it. it is a personal preference while it may help antlers that is not why I do it. (havent shot a buck is 5 years on my property other than a few culls)

That's 2 yrs between pics..although he's not much bigger. He totaled out a truck the year in between. Brows match up, ear notches..there's a big tear in that left one. And what he finished season grouped up with and watched grow.

2015 2016 That other one I posted was a similar looking 8 the year before. The 9/10pt framed deer have been making big jumps the past cpl years, but those deer don't know what winter or dry spells are.

A little protein added to their diet wouldn't hurt a thing with those genetics.
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Looks like a really great gene pool for starters. I hunt a place I've had for now the 10th season in Young Co. Gene pool was really great the first 2 seasons based on trail cam photos and we were only feeding corn and mineral stations. Huge decline in antler quality the 3rd season so we began feeding 16% protein from March 1st and generally feed until sometime in September. It's amazing what the protein can do for your deer herd. By the looks of your photos posted, I'd entertain feeding it and yes it does work. The time, money, and sweat invested will be worth it. Not only does it help antler growth, it will help your doe population as well. At one sit in a blind last season, I saw 2 does that brought their 3 fawns into the feeder area and 5 of the 6 were button bucks. 1st time to see that. Anyways, try it and I think you'll see what a difference it can make.

It's not for lack of trying..I can't get them to eat anything regardless of corn mix %. Go 100% corn and they'll be on it, put about 20% protein in (regardless of brand) and they cut off.
Those deer aren't hurting for browse with the way Mother Nature has treated them over their lifetime. With solid rain from mid April on, I'm expecting a cpl to jump off the charts. And those aren't hitting the interwebs until they're shot.

I dont guess i understand the point of this thread.
So, those that don't feed protein are now morally superior to those who do?
There's some great pics of deer. Of course after a few years of great rainfall, we all have better deer. Would feeding protein not make the deer better?
Why would you NOT want to feed protein, at least a little?
