So I am going to do some loading for a brand new Weatherby S2 in 257 Weatherby Mag. I'm planning on using RL25, 115grn Nosler Ballistic Tips and Winchester large rifle primers. According to my Nosler manual around 70 grains of powder is their supposed most accurate load. Anyone have any pointers or suggestions for me??

If you're burning that much powder (70gr), I'd suggest a Magnum primer. The Nosler data is with a Federal 215 which is a large rifle magnum primer.

You are correct. I went back to my manual and checked. I would have caught it when I actually got to that point but good catch.

I have only used H1000 in the 257bee but your powder should work well As to the Magnum powder IIRC the ES and SD were much better with the Federal 215 primers which are a hotter primer than the Winchester or CCI large rifle magnum primer

I am under the impression that the Federal 215 is still in very short supply. If that is true, Why??

Thanks for the replies. I will try the Federal 215s if I can find some.

Mag primers from CCI or Winchester should work fine, too.

Yeah this is a lesson I learned the hard way.... ALLWAYS use Magnum primers for .257wby, and personally I use Winchester or CCI for all my rifles.
I had the best results with RE22 powder, 100gr TSX and Winchester Magnum primers. I cant remember the OAL off the top of my head but the charge was .5gr under max.

If that doesn't work try the 7828ssc and 100 grain ttsx.Very impressive groups and so far very effective on deer to 650 yards.

My gun really likes to be pushed hard. The groups with 117 gr SST's did not tighten up until .6-.5 gr under max. Now they are way better than any factory loads I tried.
Point of the shoulder shot with a 257 makes the belly hair shine right where you squeezed on them.
You need to hit bone with a bullet moving over 3100 in my opinion and experience.

Agree 100% with BooneDog...... "You need to hit bone with a bullet moving over 3100 in my opinion and experience."
We chronographed my 100gr TSX load & Weatherby's factory 100gr TSX load before and after sending my rifle off to have the barrel cut from 26" down to 24" and with a 24" barrel(Hart 1-10" twist) the muzzle velocity was 3,500fps!
If you put the bullet right in the middle of the front shoulder, deer would drop like being struck with Thor's Hammer.

Maybe half a deer left to process. I would do it behind the shoulder with a bullet going that fast. Saves meat.

True on the Barnes, but I never liked bloodied and bruised shoulders, just less work and less mess. Maybe half a deer left to process. I would do it behind the shoulder with a bullet going that fast. Saves meat. Na, its a barnes anything short of 3000 feet a second is pin hole in and out. True on the Barnes, just less work and less mess. It's just the way I like em'.

According to my manual 3190 fps is where it would be put of a 26" barrel. So real world 3000 fps and. Slow would be what I'm expecting.
