In October I will be heading to Ontario for my first moose hunt and decided to go ahead and get another rifle to by my "travel rifle" and ended up getting..... Rifle - Ruger M77 MKII Stainless .300win- Factory laminated wood stock Scope - Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14x40 Ammo - 200gr. Nosler Partition, Reloader 22 powder(.5gr under max), Winchester Magnum primer I found that the rifle was accurate enough in factory condition...... I did notice that it was heavy so I replaced the factory stock with a Hogue pillar bedded one as well as added a Rifle Basics trigger and sent it off to Kampfeld Customs for - Barrel cut to 23", recessed crown, spiral barrel fluting, black cerakote. And the after pics.... And this group is the after results, with the exact same ammo as the first one.

Yep, I agree that will do for about anything walking in North America. Good luck on your moose hunt.

Kampfield has a stellar reputation. How was his wait time and prices?

Karl knows how to accurize a rifle..... no doubt about it. Looks like a fine shooting iron.

Exactly why is it necessary to accurise a rifle from a 3/4" group to a one holer to shoot an animal the size of a horse??

Sorry for the late reply, I've been out of town for a while.
Kampfeld did a great job.... This is the first time I sent a rifle to him since he moved from Michigan to Idaho; turn around time was 3 weeks(I believe) and his prices are good, after all 50% of the cost was cerakoting the rifle.
@Stub - Yes those groups were shot at 100yds
As for why I needed to send off a 3/4" rifle to shoot an animal the size of a Clydesdale horse?..... The real purpose of the work was to lighten the rifle and put a flat black finish on it - The accuracy improvements were a pleasant byproduct.
