Just getting back from my 2017 trip with Double Shot Outfitters and some great South African friends.
I spent 12 days there hunting, fishing, traveling, and enjoying the night life with some amazing people. I cant express enough how everyone that can should experience Africa. I do recommend don't just book a package hunt but add a few days before or after to travel and see the country side. I haven't seen a place there I didn't like. This was my 3rd trip in as many years and everyone seems to out do the last.

It started with being picked up in Joberg and heading west to Swartruggens area to hunt with a good friend Greg on his private farm. He has an amazing place with awesome views and great animals. We started with a traditional first night in Africa visiting with some friends and free flowing drinks. The next morning the hunting started. We hunted for 3 days taking a 44" Sable, Awesome Duiker, Steenbok, and a beautiful white Blesbok. Would have a monster Red Hartebeest but never got a clear shot. Still a great time in all.

From there my third day i was picked up by Peter Taylor. My PH for the next few days. We traveled north about 2 hours to Pretoria area. We got to camp late evening but was able to get some dove shooting in before dark. The next morning we woke up and headed out to a friend of his farm and started the morning with some fishing on a beautiful lake.

A few Bass later and it was time for lunch. After lunch we went do a little more wing shooting. We ended up with more dove, franclon, pheasants, sand grouse, guinea fowl and even some Egyptian geese.

After a full day of fun we headed back to camp for a good nights rest. We woke up at 4 am and got back on the road headed south about an hour where after Black Wildebeest. An hour after arriving at the hunting area we had a wilde in the skinning shed. skinned and hide salted we loaded the truck and headed north for Louis Trichardt to meet the DSO crew that was on their way from the US and the PHs we would be hunting with. On the way to the Lodge we stopped at a local water hole to meet the PHs. It was great seeing all the guys from last year back again. Ernest and Adam hunt with a great crew of guys there. All dedicated to their jobs and damn good at what they do. Sadly I dont have many pictures from that exact night but ill work on getting some sent later. The DSO crew called and said they where at the lodge so we headed out to meet them. Some how the neighbor of the hunting lodge ended up in the back seat of our truck lol some guys cant hang.

After getting to the lodge and meeting everyone as is tradition on the first night we all shared memories and caught up each others life events until the we hours of the morning. The drinks flowed freely and the laughter was non stop. The next morning people started to trickle into the kitchen slowly. Each PH meeting up with their clients for the week and setting a game plan. I ended up hunting with PH Hannes. One hell of a PH and always entertaining. We had our breakfast and headed to the range to check rifles. We all shot and checked and corrected as needed then it was off to hunting. Over the next several days we hunted hard. The Average Joe Nominee hunted with us as well (Ill post about his experience next). We all had a hell of awesome time and I cant wait to go back again.

Those that know me know I'm not one to praise people unless they earn it. I kept Adam and Ernest busy with helping me with transportation and the details of the trip even though some of it wasn't even going through them they where both more than accommodating and willing to help in anyway possible. I ended up taking Zebra, Impala, Wildebeest and Giraffe. Some amazing animals to top of an already amazing trip.
I am already counting the days till next year and can only hope god blesses me with another trip.

Great report! Great pictures! I fear that my Social Security checks are not quite large enough for me to make such a trip, but I can and do enjoy seeing these adventures! Thanks for sharing!!
