Now that I have retired I'm losing my excitement about shooting. I just don't have that feeling to go to the range. I'm 10 minutes from The Frisco Gun Club and I got a safe full of handguns...meh...I cant get excited anymore. I have only been retired a month, still getting used to it. My sister passed away last Thursday after a long illness. I have been consumed dealing with everything. I'm her POA and the only one left in the family. maybe after I get this behind me I'll snap out of it. I'll be ok, just weird

My condolences for your sister Buzz.
Maybe it's time to invent something for shooting or hunting?

It happens to me when I get really busy. Oddly, in high stress times, I (many of us) tend to neglect the things that help us relax most.

I'd spend some time around good people. If you have a good church, I'd spend lots of time there.

Sorry for you loss.
I'm sure a new high end gun as a retirement gift to yourself will make you feel better. If you like 22lr get a nice Anschutz 54 action (like a 1710), if you prefer long range shooting get a killer custom rig setup, etc...

Buzz, my deepest sympathies/prayers on the loss of your sister. Your not alone. Since we had our Labrador Retriever Hank euthanized, I could care less about shooting right now. I've never felt this way either. We'll be okay darlin.
He is your friend defender your dog. Be worthy of such devotion

Very sorry for the loss of your sister. Loss of a loved one brings with it a tremendous amount of grief. Grief can easily bring about depression. Depression causes us to neglect those things that are fun and bring us satisfaction. +1 on friends and church. What you're feeling is completely normal. Feeling like that for an extended period is not so, if this persists for more than a few months, you may want to talk to someone. I'll say a prayer for your heart and mind.
You know, it could be that it's so danged hot you just don't feel like shooting, too.

Truly sorry about your loss.
As for your loss of excitement about shooting, part of that is likely due to your retirement. I noticed the same thing about myself. When I had little time to hunt and shoot, it was a real treat to be able to do those things. Then, when I retired and could hunt and shoot every day of the week, month, and year, some of the excitement wore off. It's like Mondays and Fridays after retirement. I don't love Fridays like I did and I don't hate Mondays anymore.
Post-retirement life is just different, and takes time to adjust to.
I really do believe that the raging desire to 'get a new rifle' is, for a lot of people, an attempt to get the excitement going again. I see that often on the forum, in that the 260 was a great new round that everyone needed, but then the Creedmore was even better and was needed, but the 6.5x47 just has to be owned, but...the 7-08 is even better, but if you neck down the 338 Godzilla to 7 mm you can push that 180 grainier to 3200 fps.
Scopes too. Interesting to watch.
Anyway, retirement is great and I hope you have much fun. If you get bored, come mow some pasture for me...
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

Prayers for you and your family Buzz. So sorry for your loss. The only constant in life is change. As we get a little older, seems more and more of those changes are tough ones.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I retired 2½ years ago and thought my shooting might pick up, but I've found myself doing more projects on the ranch that I live on, more than anticipated, and just told my wife that I was just about done and going to get back on track with my shooting. I don't run a livestock operation, my land is a 1D1 (wildlife) property, so all the projects eventually tie back to a gun barrel in a way.
I had hoped to do a bit of silhouette shooting but haven't found any activity within a reasonable drive in my area, not interested in spending the night somewhere.
There were some fellows that I shot with before I retired, shooting here on my ranch range, but they were all older than I and by the time I retired, they were gone.
Sorry for you loss Buzz, just in a funk and you will work clear of it.

Do anything too much or too often you risk getting burnt out. Take a break from it or find a way to mix it up do your incorporating something new with it.

Buzz,Sorry about your loss. I've been going through the same thing,my best friend passed away last month after a long battle after having a massive heart attack in Oct. 2015. I haven't been to the range since Feb.,but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
It takes a lot of time/money trying to get someones estate taken care of after they pass.Try not to stress out over things beyond your control, and try to stay on top of your personal stuff. It takes some time to get back to normal when things happen beyond your control, just kick back every chance you get with good friends and family.

Sorry about losing your sister Buzz, very hard when it's family. I lost my father-in-law about a month ago and since have been dealing with his estate. Mom can't handle it and no other family here so we took her in and getting this done. That all said, I to have lost interest in many things and have to prepare to retire my self at the end of july. I'm sure it will get better, I truly hope so. Relax, have a beer (or two) with friends.

It's one of those crazy things in life. Call some other retired guys and go do some crazy stuff, riding the 4wheelers, shoot skeet, go bowling, watch some dirty movies (not). Sorry for your loss.
