Anyone else in here shooting this caliber? I ran across it the other day and the more I read the more I liked. So when I found out Alamo precision had one on their shelf I went and picked it up today Obviously going to have to reload but other than that hassle seems to be exactly what I am looking for. Just looking for real world experience or loading tips someone might have. Stock pic once I get everything mounted I will add some more photos.

The 6.5 GAP 4S is a 6.5 SAUM. It's a good round. They have dialed it back some, and still gets fast speeds at a low pressure. If you need ammo, let me know! A 140 ELD-M or 140 Berger Hybrid is bad medicine!

I must have just missed you!! I spent most of the morning in APR today.
I don't have experience with the 6.5 GAP4s but reading about guys reloading it, the one thing I always see discussed is neck turning. Not sure if it's a tight chamber or what.
There is a TON of info about that cartridge and loading for it though.
Great buy, enjoy it and let us know how she shoots!

Vortex PST Gen 2 3-15.
It's going to be hunting rig. It I have the ability and will reach out to 800-1k for fun with it though.

I picked up one myself recently. It's sitting in the safe. Plan to let Chad work up a load for it while I acquire reloading equipment and learn how to use said reloading equipment. My secret source says the 143 eld-x is the way to go for a hunting round. I'd like to hear what you come up with for yours. http://www.gaprecision.net/ga-precision-...ght-hunter.html

Some guys are running 7 SAUM brass necked down, and may need neck turning. Hornady is making the 6.5 SAUM brass now, so that's what I would use.

Yeah I am reading a lot about the eld-x in this rifle. My only concern there is I used it last year in the precision hunter 300 win mag in 210gr. I shot a whitetail at 85 yards and a mule deer at 130 yards. In both cases neither bullet passed through and in both cases I had separation of the bullet. I will be hunting whitetail as well as elk next year and just have concerns with that round.
Will either buy loaded eld-x's (place called copper cove sells them) to try out and then load those or just load either 140grain Accubonds or 127grain LRX's. Luckily I have a buddy who has his own reloading man cave all I have to do is provide the gear. All the reloading stuff is readily available. I will be. Using the Hornady brass myself.

I believe that you mean Copper Creek Cartridge Company. They have a good product, but once you are set up to reload for it, there is nothinges to it. I currently run a 130 berger vldh in mine and it puts the smack down on elk. Flipped a cow elk off her feet a couple of years ago at 275yds. Went for a high shoulder shot and all I saw at recoil was feet and snow in the air. Another waiting victim of this rifle got a Donny Brasco head shot at 299 off hand. The back of her head was fine, but her face was not pretty, to say the least. It's a fun round for coyotes as well.
Are you going to pull those pistols, or whistle Dixie?

I have not tried the 140 vldh, but I have 300 of the 140 Elite Hunters to try when I get a little free time.
Are you going to pull those pistols, or whistle Dixie?

Noticed a lot of guys switching to 135gr jlk over some of the 140 plus weight pills.

First bullet I'd try would be the 147 gr Hornady ELD.

I'm waiting on my action and will start my lightweight build
Borden Alpine titanium action Manners eh3 Bartlein 2b Timney CE
Will be topped with a Leopold Mark6
Have 200 pieces of Hornady brass and will use either 130gr bergers or 135gr jlk. More than likely the 130. Really ready to get it done and put some down range.

First bullet I'd try would be the 147 gr Hornady ELD. It would definitely be on my list if I ran one. From a convo with George at a match he said that jlk is coming out with a 145 or so as well too.

If anyone is wanting to use one and shoot the 143+ bullets be careful on reamer selection. .081fb is recommended for 130s and up to 140gr, .120fb for all around, and .145fb specifically for the 143-155gr bullets
Alamo uses .081
Pressure issues have been encountered early by not following those recommendations hurting potential performance
Gap is now using .120 as standard

Good info there thank you. Plan to stick around 130grain on my projectiles, but with your info it really helped narrow it down.

Yep, I've been wanting to do a 6.5 SAUM build. Wish APR had gone with the .120 freebore.
bphillips - who are you going to use for your build?

Not enough of an advantage with 140s with the speeds 130s give until well past 1000yd anyway. Yep, I've been wanting to do a 6.5 SAUM build. Wish APR had gone with the .120 freebore.
bphillips - who are you going to use for your build? WTO in Ackerly will be getting mine when the action is ready

I have one chambered by Mile High. It definitely won't get the 3200 fps with Berger 140s like others. Just something fun to shoot. Get more speed/BC without the recoil of a bigger magnum.
It looks like GAP has the brass in stock right now which is nice. Before people had to neck turn other SAUM sizes and was a pain.
