Just got my 20 MOA pic rail in, for my bolt action .22lr a couple days ago. I will do some shooting with it next week, and see what I can come up with. Chad thinks I'm nuts to try 300 yards with a .22 lr.

LOL! We've been talking about this match. Jason's ready to have shots out to 300 yards with it. We have plinked with 22's out that far, but it's a crazy amount of drop. A simple 1" scope tube with zero canted base won't make it. So a 25 MOA rail was added, then the scope had everything dialed in in, plus holding at the bottom of the reticle. Then, once you found your hold, the wind would beat you up right and left. And the consistency of the 22 LR ammo is bad enough with a high extreme spread (large spread between the slow and fastest rounds), you would hit high and low. It was around 48 moa, which is about equal to shooting a 308 Win to 1100-1200 yards. 300 yards is a LONG way for a 22 LR!

JG, I'm assuming the 20 MOA rail is to match your others so easier to move scopes? P_102
**Just read Chads response....I must be doing something wrong, calculated 33 gr. bullet at 1500 fps (0'd at 100) and came up with 6.3 MILS.

Interesting, w/ a 50 yd. zero I get 7 MILS.
** started with a G7 @ .1500 (just a guess, BC not listed on Remington site), switched to G1, .1000, now get 10 MILS.

14.0 is the only DOPE I know of, via Chad and Cody. You'll have to drop the BC until it makes 300 yards be 14.0 Mils.
50 yard zero, though! That, and sight height is very important to input correctly.

It was around 48 moa, which is about equal to shooting a 308 Win to 1100-1200 yards. 300 yards is a LONG way for a 22 LR! This was with my rifle. CZ 455, 16.5" barrel running suppressed with CCI SV. Scope is a Mueller APT 4.5-14x40, 30mm tube. With a zero MOA base, I was dialing 25 MOA to get to 200 yds from a 50 yd zero. 300 was possible, but I dialed every bit of elevation in my scope, and held over with my last "mil" dot on my reticle. Now I have a 25 MOA base installed, and dialing to 300 yds is no problem. From a 50 yd zero, I'm dialing roughly 44 MOA if I remember correctly. I was hitting the 2 MOA plate at 300 with surprising regularity once I figured my wind holds, and I was able to hit the 1 MOA plate multiple times (which was surprising given the nature of .22 ammo, and the switching winds that day). It can absolutely be done, and it's a blast. I posted up a photo not too long ago of the small targets I was shooting at 100, 150 and 200 yds. It's a great way to lock in the fundamentals of reading wind and trigger control, without the cost or noise. If you plan to set up a rig for this type of shooting, a 20-25 MOA base, and at least a 30mm tube on your scope would be a necessity. Also, don't mess with supersonic ammo. You hit transonic way too quick, and that little slug does not handle the transition to subsonic at all.

Go kick Chad's chair. He talked like 300 was next to impossible, and it would take a full size IPSC to hit anything.
Don't you mean, don't mess with sub-sonic ammo?

No, you want standard velocity or subsonic. Basically one in the same. I'm shooting CCI standard velocity, which according to CCI should be running 1070 fps (not sure what barrel length they test with, and haven't chronographed mine). All the match ammo you find will be standard velocity/subsonic. It's more predictable. Just like a centerfire, when a bullet hits transonic, all bets are off on guessing if that bullet is going to maintain orientation or tumble left or right. Not to mention, that little 40 gr roundnose isn't the most aerodynamic projectile out there.

Here's 100, 150 and 200 yds (left to right). Need to more "long range" practice..... Yeah, the reason that first one is so beat up is it's about a year old. It's been painted multiple times, and hammered back flat on a couple occasions. It's held up surprisingly well for a $20 target. The other two were brand new out of the box.

Back in the 70's I received a Remington model 37, Redfield aperture rear sight and Lyman front sight. Barrel is 26" bull with scope mounts for the Unertyl (sp?) style adjustable mounts. Only place I could find match ammo was Ray's and it was limited in choice.

It's a third of the equation in centerfire too.
