So what is the story with this powder, is it just in such demand that it sold out all the time or what? Last several times I have been shopping they have had shelves full of varget and other powders that were hard to get but have had zero h4350 and say they haven't had it.
I'm about to run out of it, do I need to just move on to greener pastures or is it going to come back?

I have not seen any in a while either. I had a good stock pile of it, and now I'm almost out. I ALWAYS have a back up powder for H4350 available, and have switched to IMR 4451 now on most my H4350 loads. It works equally good. I sent 1000 rounds of 6.5 Creedmoor to a customer and he was printing sub 5" groups at 1000 yards with it. He liked it a lot, and this was my standard load, not even a custom load tuned to his rifle. 4451 is slightly slower burning than H4350, so the powder charge is slightly higher for the same velocities and accuracy. I like 4451 a lot.

4451 and now rl16 are my replacement for h4350. Yes, R16 would be good, also. I don't know much about the temp stability of it, but I know several shooters who run it. 4451 R16 IMR 4350 R17 Alliant 2000 MR (slightly faster burning than 4350, but much slower than VARGET) Win 760/H414 (same powder)- ball powder with burn speed similar to 4350 All above would be decent for similar burn rates to 4350.

Tested it a bit the other day and only lost maybe 10fps from 16.5° to 108.9°

IMR 4350 is an old school powder. I don't think it's as temp stable as the Hodgdon extreme series of powders, but it's still a great powder. I still load it in my personal 270 Win ammo. It's a great powder, and I would not hesitate to use it for any shooting match or comp, if needed. It's a very good powder.

Thanks, I thought is was of similar burn rate to the H-variety so I picked up a few pounds of it when powder was hard to come by all around. I have been shooting it in my 243 with no issues so ill probably look to it till its gone.

My dad called Hodgdon yesterday about this very issue. They told him that they're producing five times the amount of H4350 as they had in the past, but they still can't keep up with demand. They said that they attributed the market rise to the 6.5 CM and long range/PRS shooters, which isn't a surprise considering that's what most of us want it for. Hodgdon also went on to say that they are producing it as fast as they can, but you just have to be in the right place at the right time to get any. Suppliers are selling out as fast as they can get it, and most guys are buying several kegs when they find it. Basically think of it as a mirror image of the .22 LR drought we suffered for many years. It will return, but I'd suggest finding a substitute in the meantime. A lot of great suggestions have already been made, with my vote going to IMR 4451.

Being lucky, I guess, I've got a decent supply of H4350 and Re16 on hand. Best as I can tell, they'll work about the same. Guys who've tried IMR4451 say the same thing about it (I tried some, but found H4350 before I got far at all, then ended up buying an 8-pounder of Re16 anyway). One no one talks about is Ramshot Hunter, which a lot of guys say works in .30-06 as well as H4350 (and the stuff meters like water!). I have not tried it in .30-06, but it looks like it'll work great in 6mm Rem with light (70-grain) bullets...I'm closing in on that load right now, I believe.
Here and there I hear that the 6.5 Creedmoor guys like Re17 also. I found it to be pretty temperature sensitive in .30-06 w/180s, but the whispered word is that it works much better in the 6.5 Creedmoor. I've got a b unch of that stuff too, and don't want to fool with it anymore.

I was down to about 4 lbs of it, and getting nervous. Did some testing with 4451, and it was pretty close, but my rifle still liked 4350 a bit better. For sure 4451 would have been acceptable for the swap if needed.
But then in Feb I found 4 lbs of 4350 at a mom and pop place. Last weekend I stopped in and they had it again, I bought 3 more. Then Monday my LGS got in 1lb (yes, just ONE lb, lol), and I bought it too. Took everything I had and blended it into one lot, about 12 lbs or so. I should have enough now to finish off the barrel on my 6.5 with a little room to spare.
H-4350 is one of those powders I buy it when I see it, whether I think I need it or not. I guess if I get up to 15-20 lbs I will back off my obsessive buying disorder. Maybe.

About a year ago I found a few pounds of it at a small local shop and passed on it because I didn't need it. Sure would have been nicer for me had I picked it up, but I hate that people hoard stuff, its what causes the supply problems we experience. Ive probably got enough to scrape together and get me through the year, but I'm going to need to start working up some different loads.

luckily I gots 10#'s hidden somewhere Hornady load for 6.5CM was 41.5gr H4350 with the 140gr AMAX, current ELDX/M loads they will not say what powder they use, just that H4350 works well.

That was Hornady's old load, which with the recent lots of H4350 is actually pretty anemic, though well above book max. Obviously you would want to work up the load starting below book max and watching for pressure, but I'm well above that in MY rifle, with MY lot of powder.
