I gave this 1851 Navy 44 Sheriff Model to my Uncle this past Christmas. I have the same thing in a 7.5" barrel. They are loads of fun to shoot.

A lot of pistol experts rate the 51 Navy Colt as the best pistol Sam Colt made.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Nice pistol! Where did you get it? Cabela's I believe. They often have one of those on sale for ~$179. I also used to make them from kit-form. I absolutely loved building them! (After every shot you have to cok the gun while pointing it straight up so that the crushed cap can fall cleanly away, otherwise it will drop down between the hammer and cylinder and lock it up.) Thanks Nogalus!

Navies were so well loved by shooters, Colt used the same grips on the Peacemaker. Of course, Colt didn't make 44 caliber Navy pistols, or brass frames, but during the time period, they did actually sell quite a few 1851 grip frames for folks to mount on their 44 caliber Army pistols because most folks considered the Navy to have most comfortable pistol grips made. I love shooting my Colt Army

Thanks yall. I did quite a bit of fitting, polishing, and refinishing to get that Pietta revolver to work as good as it looks now. Very rewarding process, but I was amazed at how chintzy the springs and screws are on Itallian repros.

It was my understanding that during the Civil War raw materials like steel from Pittsburgh were in short supply in the Confederate States, so during that time The Confederacy were making the frames out of brass.

Griswald and Gunnison made about 3600 brass frame Navy copies (pretty close to copies) for the Confederacy.

Beautiful! excellent reproductions. I'll say it again. The handles on Colt Knight's repro is prolly the nicest I've ever seen!
