Guys,
Wanted opinions. We have 2200 acre lease in east texas about 1 hour east from Nac. Most of it is old timber and have two pipelines roughly 1000 yards long. Last year, had about 18 food plots about 5 acres each spring and fall and they got hit hard. Tried 2 protein feeds on pipelines and they got hit constant.
We made all the plots bigger this spring and added 4 more. Have 8 protein feeds scattered in a lot of small clearings.
Any ideas on anything else we can be doing? Trying to improve the overall herd. Last year, does were about 10-15 pounds bigger and bucks were 20 bigger, but we also had a ton of rain last year.

As lease hunters it sounds like you are doing just about everything you can. Any idea when the "old timber" is scheduled for clear cutting?

If the timber company is discing fire breaks, you might see if you could plant them as well.

Rick - There is lots of water, so thats not an issue at all.
Ranch Dog - been on the lease 2 years, but the other guys tell me it seems they do about 200 acres every other year. We are waiting on them to finish the 200 from last year so we can put some plots there.

If you dont mind the cost, and plan on being on the lease for many years, see about planting some fruit trees. Persimmons, plums, apples.
