I'm looking at a place between Junction and Menard, on the West side of 83. Does anyone have any 1st hand knowledge of Axis being in the area?

I had a place out that way right off 83 to the east between Junction and Menard. 201 acres and never saw an axis. My old place was just past the little picnic area. I would see quite a few axis dead on the road on the way in though. My place was surrounded by smaller places and everything got killed before it ever made it to our place, but I would not see axis on the game cams either and I had them up all year.11 of them. I know they are there but could never figure out why they never crossed through our place. We did have water, fed alfalfa, and we didn't over hunt at all. I would still get a place out that way if I had the chance though, I know they are around and it was great. Just wish the neighbors places were bigger.

I have first hand knowledge that my buddy's place that is roughly 9 miles west of Menard has Axis and blackbuck.

I'm pretty sure they're in the area you're asking about.

I am right there where you want to be and have axis, blackbuck and sika with my whitetail. Of course I try to keep them in my fence, but do get routine pictures of some on the outside of my fence too. I have lost a few in heavy rains in the past, but thankfully those kinds of rains are not the norm out there.

I plan to feed year round, and likely put in a food plot. Any suggestions on what to plant for that area, and the axis (grazers) like?

My food plots are pellets and the local feed store delivers them by the truck load. I am of the opinion that it doesn't rain enough out there for me to waste time, diesel and money scratching the ground and praying for rain. I am planting pecan and oak trees though, plan to add some caged brambles too. I planted 15 oaks this past weekend and one more pecan. Planted several pecans last year and have more saplings being delivered for me to plant on my next trip out at the end of next week.

Axis eat Pecans? I know Hogs & turkey like them, never have seen a Whitetail eat one.
