I have been reading and learning here for years..kinda surprised this is my first post.
Working up a load for my 25-06..Rem 700 CDL. Was wanting to run some Nosler 115gr Partions. So I'm getting my die set up to seat bullets and I'm working off the COAL in the 7th edition of the Nosler guide. Published OAL is 3.250". Tested COAL for this particular bullet is 3.200". I'm going strictly by the book on this and as I get the seating depth set, I grab the rifle to make sure the round will chamber right. (something I do for every new load) As I'm closing the bolt I feel just the slightest resistance. Eject the round and check it. It measures 3.126"???? So I immediately start checking the rifle for a fouled chamber...turns up clean. So now I'm thinking I screwed up somewhere. Try 5 more times with the same results.
This ever happen to anyone else?

Never happened to me, but I've heard of it. I would find the OAL to the lands for that bullet and seat a little deeper than whatever it is by around 0.020" or so to start, then play with seating depth to fine tune once a good charge is found. If you don't want to mess with finding the max OAL for your rifle with that bullet, I'd probably just seat to an OAL of about 3.100" and call it good. I don't know if your rifle somehow is different from what was intended at the factory, but you never know---they may have accidentally built you a tack driver. I hear Remington lets one slip out the door now and then.

First time it ever happened to me..not that I have a ton of reloading experience. I did just what you suggested and 3.100" See how it shoots and go from there.

Seen this in a 270 Wby, using factory ammo first round chambered just as you described, cycle bolt second tighter and then you could not open bolt without beating on it, third round forget it. Took to smith and they confirmed chamber tighter than spec. Had them open up since hunting rifle not a bench/target gun. If you find a load check ability to cycle bolt for second round if to be a hunting gun.

Rifle has 60 rounds down the pipe, so far all factory ammo and mostly Remington 120gr Corelockts...and zero issues...guess the difference in the bullet shape is showing up..

3.220" 120gr Remington Core-Lockt. They seem to have a somewhat different ogive shape...I think ogive is the right term, they have a longer ogize than the Partitions..

Are you measuring base to ogive length in your chamber with a tool like the Hornady Lock N Load gauge or a home made modified case? Try to adjust your round .020 off the lands. It should work.

For some reason 25-06 seems to be a bit of a bug. I had a Savage Axis in 25-06 and made up some loads and used a a Wilson gauge. Every one of those needed the shoulder moved back a bit to chamber properly. The same rounds work perfectly in my buddies Remington 700. So all I can add here is check your loaded rounds on the gun you intend to use them in.

I load for a 25-06. I take and start around the lower end and seat to the lands. Shoots great with 110gr Accubonds and 115gr Bergers.

1st, no expert.. never thought about factory ammo with the above problem, reloading, I don't use a book oal, I start short, using a black marks a lot(on the bullet) keep easing the bullet out till I get to the lands, then back off.
hold on Newt, we got a runaway

I have an original Remington 700 Sendero in 300RUM. 95% of factory loaded Nosler Partitions will not fit in the gun. Cant even begin to get the bolt to close. Every now and then I will find a old lot number of that load and they will work but since Remington quit making that load many years ago its almost impossible to find now. Every load other than the Nosler Partition that I have tried fits no problem.
I refuse to have the chamber opened up a little because the gun shoots lights out and I aint going to mess with a good thing!

Yes. In my rebarrelled 223, I found first that new loads with Lapua brass would not chamber until I turned the necks. Later, reloads with the 63 gr Sierra SMP had to be seated a tiny bit deeper (than Lyman's recommendation) to chamber. The chamber has been opened up a bit, so Lapua brass no longer has to have turned necks. And the bullet seating depth is no problem at all.

I have no idea on mine. I never payed any attention to what the books says on COAL. Me neither. To the lands, then back off .020" measured at the ogive and adjust from there. It's been a way to turn my so-so factory shooters into tack drivers. Let the rifle tell you what it wants.
