I'm thinking about getting one and would like some first hand opinions. I read mixed reviews on both accuracy and reliability. CCI makes some ammo designed for the action. Does it help/work? Thanks.

I traded for one back before Christmas, have only shot 50 rounds through it. So far i like it. Have friends that have had them for a while and they really like them. Best i can tell you have to shoot the A17 ammo through it or it will not function right. No first hand knowledge of the A17 ammo only though, just what i have been told.

I tried to talk myself into liking a 17HMR twice, but didn't have great luck with it either time. What are you wanting to do with it?

I'm going to put up a hog light at the feeder in the off-season and get rid of as many raccoons as I can. I think it will be a great way to let my 12 year old learn shot placement on something that moves.

That's a good application for sure. Just don't be surprised if accuracy isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Personally I would get the Savage 93 bolt gun instead. Mine and all the others I have been around have all been exceptionally accurate. I have dropped quite a few skunks, coons, and yotes with mine as well as a good number of hogs.

I do not have experience with the A17 but I love my Savage 93. Easily the most accurate gun I have up to 150 yds. It does not do well with soft targets in short distances as it is simply moving too fast to do much with such a small round. Get out to 40+ yds and it performed nicely. I have shot armadillos, opossums, skunks, etc with no issue. Also makes Rimfire Tannerite a lot more fun.

Love my BTVS 93R. The feed issue with the A17 has kind of shied me away from the it.

My 93R17-BTVSS does a great job with several different types of ammo. Have never had a problem with ammo feeding.

The A17 will function fine with higher velocity ammunition. It doesn't have to be the A17 marked stuff.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

My accuracy comments were related to paper target shooting. It's plenty accurate for hunting, but I had a Savage and a CZ that were both pretty lackluster, especially when you consider the cost of ammo isn't much less than a 223.

If you are looking for accuracy get the heavy barrel version. My dads is the heavy barrel and drives tacks at 50 yards
