Coat those bright red and you can put lipstick on a pig. Errr, maybe in a pig.

What are you coating them with, and why?

I think its a baked powder coat on the bullets. I think it helps with lead fowling in the barrel or maybe allows you to run them faster with out deforming?

Yes...this is a cast boolit designed for powder coating. From experiments they can go a bit over 2000fps without lube and can be quite accurate. I plan on trying them in my 30-06 and .308. I can cast and coat 100s of these for alil bit of not much. Really fun inn 300BO

You will need to clean the barrel HEAVILY after shooting these though any rifle if you switch back to naked bullets. It will also coat the barrel when shooting. Some of the guys that I talk to that have accuracy issues had been shooting some form of coated bullets and mixing their ammo with naked bullets without cleaning. It changes the consistency inside the barrel, which leads to bad groups. If you go coated bullets, stick with it. If you want to try them, plan for a lot of cleaning to get the coatings out, and lots of fouling shots. IMO, it's not worth it. But it works for some if 100% committed.

The people you know must be doing it wrong. I get Zero lead and Zero residue. No mess at all. They have a speed limit though.

What? You coat a non-jacketed lead bullet with a thin paint, shoot a semi soft lead bullet down a metal tube that grips the lead and twists the bullet to spin at 200,000-250,000 rpm's, with super hot gas and 55,000+ psi pressure behind it, and you think there is zero lead and zero residue left behind. Think about that!

I'll send you some to test if you like. I have been coating cast lead boolits for several years. It took a while to get this performance. It works well for me.

Funny thing is powder coat will not mix and blend with other colors like paint. You wind up getting splotches of each color you add

So, I guess little piggy graphics for terrorist hunting are just out of the question. I guess if they shoot good, a solid color is okay. You could load those BOs with roundnose coated bright pink, though, and they'd look just like lipstick. I wonder how many ladies would go nuts over that. You know how they are...bless their hearts.

Blackout is an excellent choice for cast bullets. You can run them nearly full power, unlike a 308 or 30-06 that is limited to about 2/3 its potential velocity.
I've shot thousands of cast bullets through rifles with no ill effects, although mine are all gas checked.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I've never fooled with cast for rifle calibers, but it's about all I load in handguns...some gas checked, some not. When done right, leading is not a problem whatsoever.
Powder coating hasn't been around all that long, but I keep seeing some interesting reports of success. It's intriguing on account of not having to deal with sticky lubes, but I wonder about doing 1000 at a time. Those danged colored bullets are purty, too. If I tried it, I might end up hating all the lube sizing crap I've got...that's about as bad as buying 16 pounds of a good powder that gets replaced by a spectacular powder. Maybe worse.

Not the same coating but remember the Barnes XLC bullets before the days of TSX when they were using a blue photographic coating on their X bullets to reduce friction
