How many do this? In the circumstances where I have made an error, I usually pull the bullet, dump the powder, and the chunk the rest.
Always nervous to deprime them.

I've done a bunch. Just go easy. I reused the primers too.

Nope. I convinced myself it wouldn't be too bad if one did go off. Then I went very easy. Pucker marks were in play.

How many we talking about? If less than 50 or so, I'll just shoot them in the gun. I won't deprime a live primer at all. But that's just me. Primers are CHEAP.

I've deprimed many live rounds. Just push it out slow. If you plan to re-use the primer, make sure the anvil stays in place. I recycled live knocked out primers, and have had a few not go off in some plinking ammo. The anvil will get pushed and moved during the depriming process, and stands a good chance of damaging the primer. I won't recycle them again, it's not worth the $.03 savings and head ache of it not going off the second time.

It's an individual comfort thing. I would personally just pop them with the gun and them deprime, but that's where my comfort zone is.

I've done a bunch. Just go easy. I reused the primers too. I've never tried reusing them. Good time to wear the safety glasses.

I have deprimed a good number with no issues at all... I also reused them with no failures so far.

Same here. I was nervous at first, but it's no big deal now.

As suggested, slow by easy is where it's at; and I always lean away from the press and wear my safety glasses and ear protection. Been doing it for 50 years, and have never had one detonate. But I still treat it like "the next one will be the one to go off!" If you're even a bit uncomfortable with depriming a live primer, stuff the primed case(s)in the rifle chamber and let the firearm to the work. If you do this, remember that there's some pretty serious stuff that will come out of the barrel, so watch where you you're pointing it!

If your press has a spent primer cup either pick out the primer every time or put water in it to prevent multiple primers firing.

This may be a stupid question so go easy on me. Why deprime? Why not just reload the primed case?

This may be a stupid question so go easy on me. Why deprime? Why not just reload the primed case? I seated some bullets too deep...after you pull the bullets, the neck is stretched back out a bit to where it wont snuggly seat a new bullet, so I wanted to deprime to resize. If you take out the primer pin that also works to size the bullet hole (probably a more scientific term for this opening)...mouth maybe. Then it will size it to small to seat a bullet.

You can put the expander ball back in without the depriming pin in.

I've probably pushed out 1000 or more live primers in my lifetime and reused them. Never had a single one go off, but I have had a few go off when using a hand primer. That will get your attention pretty quick !

Yes, I should have stated that. You would have to pull the decapping pin to resize but that's no bid deal.

When I have the need to do it, I put on ear muffs, safety glasses and hold a wood loading block as close as I can and directly between me and the case.
Haven't had any go off yet, and I've reused them with plinking ammo with no issue so far. I would't stick them in hunting/target rounds
I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.
