Twice in the last two seasons I have hunted some fairly stout winds down at the coast. Neither time was I pleased with the performance of the weights. I try to use the least amount of weight possible. I already have a mold but it is for making bank weights. I am fixing to stop the decoys from creeping off, as in right now. I hunt with three guys that will watch them float off Does anyone have an idea the brand of these weights on this decoy? Better yet any idea where I can buy the mold?

LOL These are not for use in the field. A guy dropped off a whole tote full of them. Unfortunately only two had weights. I can't see these weights moving in the conditions we were in.

Wal....how many oz's are those weights? and let me know if they work....I've always poured my own and you are correct, sometimes it takes alot to keep them from blowing back to the shoreline. Always looking for a way to light'n the load on the decoy bags.

I have not weighed the antique ones on that old decoy. I am guessing they are as heavy as 8 oz.

Wayne I pour lead for decoys, and I've even poured in wood drilled out like that. I think the wood will eventually crack, maybe, haven't had that problem yet. But for something like that you might save yourself some energy if you can find a cheap muffin tin. If not scrap wood will always do the trick D:

Dave I think I am going to use a step drill and bore out between two 2 by 4s. I can run a nail to and through the bottom. The weedeater string will go through the nail hole and the weight can slide. The step drill will make the top side of the weight about an inch or a little wider and the bottom will be near half an inch. That way the wide top lip will give the weight some bite in that hard packed sand. I am going up to 5 ounce. They are making me take Friday off so that might be a weight making restringing day. My Iowa goose/greenhead connection is coming down in January. I can't be having my stuff floating off.

Till you get a mold why not use sand in a tray, mold one side . Take two of them and solder them together. Just be sure and pack the sand tight around he anchor.

I have searched the internet over and back again. I have not been able to find the manufacturer of these weights in the picture. I would really like to get my hands on a mold like that.

Edited to add: I know nothing of that company, just found it while browsing for my own moulds.

I pour my own sinkers, weights and bullets. If you go the route of the nail....coat it in oil before pouring, it will release from the lead a heck of a lot easier.

Looky there. Winner winner! That is the exact mold I was searching for. Excellent job. All I need to do is decide 4 or 5 oz and order it. When I am done, anybody that wants that style is welcome to use the mold.
