My son is 10 and has shot a .223 single shot with Winchester wild boar xt .223 shells since he was 7. They come in a black box. He has shot several deer and aoudad and bobcats and knock on wood he has never lost an animal. And there is always a nice blood trail with alot of damage for such a small gun. But I have looked everywhere and cant find the shells and he is down to three shells left.
I am not very knowledgeable on ammo and was wanting to see if the forum could help me out. Is there something that I could find easier in a .64 grain 223 shell like the Winchester wild boar xt that make a good hole and mushroom good so we can continue to find his animals?
I am going to keep looking for the other shells but if I can get something in the mean time it would be good.

http://palmettostatearmory.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=speer+223Speer LE .223 is supposed to work pretty good. I picked up a bunch of the 64gr ammo a while back when they had it for $9.99/box and free shipping. Haven't had a chance to shoot anything with it yet.

I'd try to find something with a 60 grain Nosler Partition. Should give you basically that same performance and penetration.

Like I said , we hunt alot but I am not very knowledgeable as I should be on ammo. This might be a dumb question.
If I do get the .60 grain Nosler Partition and he is shooting .64 grain now is that enough to cause me to have to re-sight in his rifle are we ok out to 100 yards without re sighting?
Thanks!!!

ALWAYS re-zero a firearm when changing ammunition. It's not worth the chance. Don't let him miss a trophy because of it.

I just looked at Academy's website, and it is very unlikely that you are going to find any 223 ammunition loaded with Partitions. I'd look for anything with bonded or round nose bullets in 55, 60, or 62 grain. This is a good alternative if you can find it in stock: http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/monarch-...hildCatid=28722

Nosler and Federal load the 223 with 60gr Nosler Partitions The Federal will be in their Premium line. Winchester also recommends their 64gr Power Point silver box ammo for deer. I have seen both those loads at Academy before. Not sure if they have them now.
Good luck, hunting with kids sure is fun.
