Note to self: When cutting pine saplings....you WON'T need to use as much force on those down strokes as before. Addendum to note to self: IF you don't adjust your swing (for the now sharp blade)...it WILL cut though the pine and continue on until it meets your shin. Said 'shin' being much harder than pine will stop the blade.... but not before the blade embeds itself about 1/4" into your bone. P.S. take band-aids with you when you go to the woods. Alternately, be more careful than I was. Flint. Edited to provide a less disgusting pic:

Meh....just one of those things.
Had to find a rag in the truck to tie around it to get the bleeding to stop. Normally have a first aid kit with me, but it was in the ranch truck and I have to put a new starter in it today, so I was in the Land Cruiser.
Its my own fault, just in a hurry to clear out a path.

Shaved the leg, have surgical strips on it. Going to let it drain. Blade got into the bone pretty good, so I don't want to close it up completely just yet. I have a suture kit if needed, but the 'cut' is only about an inch long. Provided no infection gets started....we are good to go. Bone hurts a little, but that's to be expected.

Might be time to change your name to Boneknapper. Hah, yeah I deserve that. This is actually only the second time I've 'whacked' myself in over 45 years of using a machete, so all in all..not a bad track record. I was just going too fast and didn't allow for how much easier the 'sharp' blade was cutting the saplings. It went through the one pine like butter and I couldn't stop the 'over swing'. Oh well....no big deal. Just be careful out there guys and keep a first aid kit handy.

No stitches required....no problem....nothing more than a scratch......

No stitches required....no problem....nothing more than a scratch...... Thats my take on it too. If I can make it stop bleeding (or put a stitch or two in it) myself, then I'm not driving 25 miles into town to sit for a couple of hours. Too much to do around the ranch for that. If you hack through a tendon or something...that would be different. But not a shin bone. " Toe bone connected to the foot bone Foot bone connected to the heel bone Heel bone connected to the ankle bone Ankle bone connected to the shin bone Shin bone connected to the knee bone Knee bone connected to the thigh bone "

No stitches required....no problem....nothing more than a scratch...... sounds like you didn't sharpen it enough. Seriously though if you hit the bone clean it good. I got a catfish fin stuck to the bone and they had to scrape it to keep bacteria off the bone.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I have sharpened a few machete in my line of work and yes that seems to be a common problem. You get use to hacking those limbs and don't expect it to cut right through. Ouch that will leave a mark. Good times

Meh, just a flesh wound. Rub some dirt on it and walk it off.
Be careful out there, sir.

Something went wrong because you are bleeding. Yes, reminds me of what my Mother would always tell me (and my Brothers): "Pain and Bleeding are natures way of telling you....you just did something stupid".
