Federal Premium Sierra MatchKing BTHP .308 In 168gr Who used it for deer hunting, how did you like it?
Don't want to start a discussion if HP is better/worse than SP for white tail deer.
Would like to hear a real experience from someone who tried it.

Good shot placement, and you will be fine. The main issue I've seen with the Sierra MK is the unknown bullet performance. Sometimes you get them to expand dramatically, and other times you may get an ice pick wound channel. But if you shoot this ammo well, and with good shot placement, you will be fine.

Jeffbird uses the smk a lot in 308 although I believe it's the 175gr version.

Used them on a whole bunch of deer and pigs over recent years and found them to be quite effective, although I am using Barnes TTSX's more and more. The preferred shot placement which is most effective is diagonal between the shoulder blades. This placement works well with most all bullets. Broadside lung shots should be avoided if possible, and I'd say that with most other bullets as well. The bullet may punch holes through both sides, but they usually will run and the blood often will drain into the chest cavity rather than leaving a trail. Example of an exit wound with high shoulder placement. Do not aim for a broadside lung shot. They mostly will not run with the placement shown.

I have used them but not ideal bullet for hunting IMO. I shoot head neck and it works there but the one behind shoulder I took resulted in dead deer but ice pick wound with little Internal damage. Careful placement and deer will die but if you hit a little low or to far back in chest you will have trouble.
