So I have been resistant to purchasing "snake boots" ie something with a kevlar shank and leather uppers or a Chippewa style boot Of late I have just been wearing my rubber and steel toe mud boots that are about upper to mid-calf high. The milkweed, grass, and other greenery is nearly waist high these days at our hallowed hunting grounds. As such, it takes some serious diligence to watch where you step, if you can see the bottom at all. But until this very moment I have not worried about a snake punching through and getting me.
Do I have a false sense of security or not? Is it very likely that a rattler would/could punch a hole in my rubber mud boots? I don't let the rubber get brittle and I also haven't had a cactus or mesquite thorn through them, ever.
Just curious what the peanut gallery says.

last I checked a rattler bite was about $20K in doctor bills - a good snake boot is $200.

Just bought a pair of LaCrosse's 18" waterproof boot last week.....very comfortable and I didn't have to wear them in. I cross a creek getting to one of my sits and didn't want to risk anything. I tried on a pair of Chippewa's but we're not comfortable to me.

I bought the zipper side version of these (currently not on their website, but think they come back around hunting season). http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/game-win...ldCatid=1098487They are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn for hunting and they were about $70-80 I think. I was going to buy the Chippewas but thought for $70 why not give them a try. One of them did develop a small water leak but Academy takes them back so I'm going to get another pair as soon as they are back in stock. Haven't tested them against a set of fangs yet so I hope they work!

I bought a pair of the Danner pronghorn snake boots last year. They are pretty comfortable. Time will tell how they hold up.

I got the game winner from academy first. They are comfortable were a little wide for my feet. The next year I got the chips. very very comfortable and fit me well. After a badly broken ankle at the deer least I am unable to wear pull on boots. I sold my Chips on here a while back. Hated to but had no choice.

I have the GW zip ups that are very comfortable and Justin square toe that are heavier. If I'm walking a lot I wear the GW boots. Both are zip ups which are important as I get older.

Chippewas all the way. Have used Justin, rocky Lace up, lace with side zipper, bass pro brand lace ups. Chippewas were the most comfortable from day 1.
I have been thinking of getting Turtle Skins chaps for my next snake proof piece of equipment.

I have used Danner pronghorn snake boots,it's pretty comfortable I've spent many a day walking in them. Best Snakeboots I ever had. Lasted for years, until my heel finally wore thru the gortex liner, and they are no longer waterproof. Just went down to the store (snakeboots.com) and purchased a new pair. Discontinued but they did have my size. Why do companies discontinue successful models??? It is beyond me. The new model has zippers on the side, and are more expensive. I Don't trust the zipper. I bought the discontinued model. I KNOW they hold up, just treat them with a little "bear grease" whenever they start drying out, and use a boot dryer whenever they get real wet. Last and last.

I just bought a pair of "blemished" Chippawea snake boots off eBay for $150 shipped and I couldn't be happier with them.

I have Rocky 16" Lynx snake boots. I also picked up full length protection camo snake chaps from Carter Country for $69.99 which are lightweight and worth the extra protection. They also have inside zippers to help you get them on when you got your boots on. They are much better than the ones with only shin guards.
