I've got an A400 Unico and would be comfortable with anyone shooting it that weighs more than 80 lbs. Really comfortable shotgun with a great pattern straight out of the box.

As far as recoil goes I think the A400 Xtreme has the lightest of all the upper end shotguns. I've shot the SX3, Maxus, A400 and the also the A5 and SBE2 which both have a little more recoil.
The only thing about the A400 is it's a little bulky. The recoil is slightly less than the Maxus but your girlfriend might like the fit if the Maxus better and if that's the case I'd go with the Maxus

My wife didnt like the 20 ga so she shoots a cheap Charles Daly semi auto 12ga now. She loves it. She is 5'4' and 115lbs and never complains about kick. She also shoots 308 and 7mm mag for deer/hog.

Only thing that bother me about the a400 xtreme is there is a bunch of moving parts (springs in the stock) I feel that could end up being a problem Every semiautomatic shotgun has a spring in the stock, with the exception of the Benelli Vinci which has it in the receiver. Even though scientifically the amount of recoil is the same in gas vs. inertia, anybody who has put 100 rounds through both (same rounds, same weight gun) will tell you the gas does feel less poundy to the shoulder. Here's something you hear but not often: find her a gun that fits her, she likes (most important) and isn't too heavy for her to handle for repeated shooting. If the recoil is a bit much, buy slower loads for her and she can learn the additional lead on a clays course.

My wife mainly shoots the shiz with her friends at home while I'm out hunting!
She does come every once and while and shoots a 20 ga Benelli m2. Its an awesome gun.

I have the A400 Expolr in 12 and 20. The 20 is the softest shooting shotgun I have ever owned. If you and the Mrs. are close by she can try both. Shot the 20 teal hunting this weekend. The 12 even has K/O.

I don't really like it but it's not a big deal.

My husband bought me a Browning BPS 28 guage. No recoil, easy to load. I love it!

A400 Xtreme hands down. I was shooting skeet at my ranch with a buddy that has a SBEII. After shooting 2-3 rounds of skeet through my gun, I used his for a little bit, very noticeable difference with regards to recoil, A400 cannot be beat.

Daughter is 5' 3" and 100lbs sopping wet. I bought her a Browning Silver Micro Midas with a 24" barrel and she loves it, coming from a Franchi Affinity 20ga compact which had more recoil because it was so light. She is shooting 3" 1 1/4oz #3s @ 1450fps with zero complaints.

I shoot a cynergy for ducks and a citori 20 ga for dove. I let a buddy shoot my cynergy yesterday and he was really impressed at how there was very little recoil. Both the guns fit me very well and I love em. Have her hold and shoulder both. The browning a5 new one is a really nice light weight gun too. The cynergy has a little bit of weight to it, but I don't mind

I moved my wife to a 12 and I noticed she started shooting less and less. She eventually stopped shooting. To get her back to shooting I had to buy an OU 410 and coax her to shoot all the time. I also got her a 28 ga and she loves it. When she shoots a 12 ga I pick some very easy recoil shells.
