I went to Academy today to renew my hunting license and APH. Cashier rang me up and off I went to the license counter. Guy at the license counter says you cannot renew your APH right now because your old one is good until the end of the month. He then sent me back to customer service to get a refund on the APH permit after he printed my new license. He said this is the rule from TPWD. I can't believe that an organization (TPWD) would REFUSE to take money for one permit, but gladly take it for the other. It makes ZERO sense to me. But I guess that is what government is for-to add ignorance & stupidity where none existed before. Great job TPWD!
I'm sure many will forget to go back and renew the APH and then the rangers/Game Wardens will get the opportunity to write some tickets for people missing the APH. Maybe that is their plan? If so, it's a chicken [censored] way to try and extort money from hunters. Either way... I'll have to go back to Academy to stand in line again for a second permit.

I don't know if that is right. I think you got hosed by the Academy clerk. I got my APH on my license and I am legal from 8/24/16-8/31/17. The only thing that expires on my license is the Federal Duck Stamp line item date (10/7/16)that is provided until I get the actual stamp in the mail. I have been checked in prior years and never had a problem and I buy my license the same way every year. Are they going to charge you to get it printed again or do you carry around another piece of paper? Either way its a PITA.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I also think they misinformed you at Academy. I just got my license, AHP, and Federal Duck Stamp, at Walmart, without any issues.

Academy gave me a runaround too. I got my license at Gander instead. The young folks working there were a lot more friendly and knowledgeable.

And that's another reason I don't get mine at ANY box store!!! Go find a place that knows what they are doing and stick with them. Oh, by the way, your 2015-2016 license doesn't expire till Aug 31!!!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I appreciate you letting me know. I'll try and find another local place that can get me squared away. The guy at Academy made it seem like there was something more to it, and now it makes sense-he just has been misinformed as well.
