Yap I missed out on the Pronghorn drawing, hopefully the 2nd drawing will bring success. I am also in on the Gemsbock hunt and Scimitar Horned Oryx hunt drawings.

I got Private Lands Antlerless/Spike - Travis County Ranch. Long shot here, but anyone hunted there before?
This is turning out to be my lucky year as I also got Javelina at Chaparral WMA. Hunted there 12 years go and am looking forward to going back.
FWIW - Its been four years since I was last drawn for anything.

FWIW - Its been four years since I was last drawn for anything. Do you put in on several hunts each year? I have been picked for at least one hunt every year until last year where I didn't get anything. But I put in several hunts each year. This year is around 65 hunts. I think the nonresidents should have to pay more to better our odds.

Yes, I put in for numerous hunts every year. Think I'm in for about 30 this year, which is about average for me.

Nothin but a turd in a biscuit again. I guess I'm gonna have to buy a pronghorn hunt before I get too old. Nothing here. I have 21 points for the pronghorn hunt category now. I have been accumulating points in CO and WY for long enough that I could plan a pretty good hunt and easily draw in those states. I too need to start thinking about cashing those in before I get too old.

I think non-residents should have to pay more or limit the amount of hunts they are allowed to enter.

I think non-residents should have to pay more or limit the amount of hunts they are allowed to enter. I think the problem could be solved by requiring the applicant to buy a hunting licence before they enter. That way, non-residents would have more skin in the game and less likely to just take a shot.

Yeah, now that I have thought about it a little more, if you require a non-resident to purchase a license that may turn a lot away. Then by turning people away you're pulling money out of the pockets of the TPWD which wouldn't be good. So looking both ways has it's pro's and con's. In the end the state doesn't want to turn away hunters and their income.

I'm a non-resident that plays the Public Drawn Hunts game, and I agree with some of your comments. Everyone wants better odds, and to draw some of those high demand tags, but it just keeps getting harder. I have been applying since 1991 when I lived and worked in coastal Matagorda county. I have since moved to Idaho and enjoy the Mountain West, but I still hunt N/S/E/W from there. I have drawn some tags in Texas, had to turn some great ones back, and also come down and hunted others and spent a heck of a lot of money in the communities. We also come down and spend a bunch of time and money on deer leases also. If you like to play in other states and with other species we will all make it work, no matter what. I do have a question for you tho. What license are you going to make a NR buy - the $48 5-day Special, the $132 annual for exotics, or the $315 full boat? If he applies for an archery tag, does he have to buy the archery endorsement before he can apply? Are you going to refund that if he doesn't draw? What if he only wants does/spikes or just hogs? Way to many questions and possibilities with tying it to licenses, due to the structure of them in Texas. The very worse thing that has happened to draw odds in Texas is letting people apply for every hunt in every category now, and you guys are the ones that let TPWD do that yourselves. Look at all the odds and you will see they are 100/200/300% harder to draw this year. Just raise the application fees 3, 4, or 5 times for non-residents and everybody should be happy, TPWD would get a lot more money, and NR's would still be just as happy to play in the game. And I would still be playing the game and trying fora tag!

In the end the state doesn't want to turn away hunters and their income. The $45 a non resident 5 day hunting license fees taken in by TPWD would more than make up for the $3 entry fees we lose from the few that don't want to pay the $45 and $3 fees. It should create an increase in total over all revenue generated by these hunts. Less residents being turned away means more money spent in state for sporting goods and supplies that is purchased in preparing for a hunt. And non residents that are serious about hunting on these hunts should welcome such a change as it increases their odds of drawing same as residents. IMHO.

................ I do have a question for you tho. What license are you going to make a NR buy - the $48 5-day Special, the $132 annual for exotics, or the $315 full boat? If he applies for an archery tag, does he .... Oklahoma has drawn hunts. It is a preference point system like ours, not weighted like a lot of western states. That state requires any hunting license to apply including allowing a 5 day license. There are no endorsements required to apply for a hunt. I think the logical answer would be to do the same here. Require any license including allowing the 5 day. Many especially if they live close to Texas will buy the full license. Even in years I did not think I would be hunting in Oklahoma, I would buy the full license. Since I was going to pay the 5 day anyway for the draw, I saw it as a discount on the full license so might as well buy the rest for a year license just in case I want to cross the border for a spur of the moment hunt. And I usually did just that.

I am good with anything that they come up with, especially if it is not complicated. I know every game dept struggles for money. We just buy the full license, schedule our time off in Dec or Jan around any tag draws or if unlucky come down to the deer lease at Uvalde and Brackettville around the Holidays. Then that license is good for Spring turkeys again in March and April. The downside is it usually is too darn cold for good redfishing!

I used to get drawn just about every year but the last 5 I've not been drawn at all. I guess you build up anti preference points when you get drawn. Lol I'm hoping to get drawn this year.
