Press release:
Daniel Defense Terminates Relationship with Academy Sports
Black Creek, GA- June 16, 2016. Daniel Defense—engineer and manufacture of the world’s finest firearms, precision rail systems, and accessories— Has announced it will no longer sell firearms to Academy Sports due to their decision to remove MSR’s from their website and in-store displays.
Letter to all Daniel Defense Distributors:
“As you know we take our partnership with our stocking retailers very seriously. We are committed to serving and supplying them at the highest level and expect our retailers to have that same level of commitment to our brand and our industry. Unfortunately, Academy Sports has made a corporate decision, in the wake of the recent terrorist attack, to remove all MSRs from their website and in-store displays. Academy Sports has communicated that they intend to continue to sell the MSR category of firearms without displaying or advertising them publicly. As a prominent MSR brand, Daniel Defense cannot support decisions that are completely contrary to the values of our company and industry. Therefore, as of today, June 16th, I request that you place Academy Sports on a Do Not Sell list for all Daniel Defense products and terminate any shipments to their stores or distribution centers. It is unfortunate that we have to make this decision, but it is clearly the right thing to do for our brand, our industry and our constitutional right. Thank you for your support.”
Bill Robinson, VP of Sales
“Academy’s decision clearly segregates firearms by their appearance, which sends a dangerous message to our politicians that it’s acceptable to do so. We as an industry must stand and fight, together.”

Now if our politicians would do the same with the "refugees". In the other direction, of course.

I've never seen a high end gun or AR in Academy. I wonder how much business they actually did with them.

Yeah, I suspect it's easy to make this stand with the 93 units Academy probably sold. Ever. But I'm cool with it. I don't know that Academy will stop advertising ARs and only sell them from underneath the counter, but if that is their plan, then I'm not a happy customer.

I do appreciate that Daniel Defense took a strong stance for what they believe is within their customers best interest. My guess is that the move is not going to hurt the bottom line of either company.

While I agree I doubt Academy sold many of DD's guns, it still is a very public stance in opposition to what a lot of the public thinks. This could hurt their bottom line with the uneducated and I doubt it was done lightly. Those who know their guns probably couldn't care less about a squable with Academy so not much risk there, but they need to keep new customers coming in. I aplaud their stand, and will vote with my money when it comes to Academy.

Academy use to be managed by sportsmen and women, now not so much. I will shop elsewhere and incourage others to do the same.
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

This could hurt their bottom line with the uneducated Masters degree in Computer Science. I emailed them and said they will never get another cent from me. How's that for a "uneducated" response. I added them with Dick's Sporting Goods on my "No Buy" list.

Possibly wont effect either companies bottom line, but I think it shows some backbone by DD not to cave to PC pressure, this story also made the weekend news, so it is getting out...
Could you imagine if Cabelas, or BPS did the same thing as Academy, they also probably derive most monies from non-gun sales.
I personally applaud DD for being that "drop in the bucket" just on principle.

I added them with Dick's Sporting Goods on my "No Buy" list. The irony here is that Deep Sea was referring to Daniel Defense in the sentence you quoted. So, you are saying that you have added Daniel Defense to your "No Buy" list? Solid reading comprehension for someone so "educated." Classic!

I sent Daniel Defense showing support of their decision. Businesses need to hear from consumers about these sorts of matters.

Daniel Defense leveraged its extensive media relations to get the MK18 featured on the Popular Mechanics cover in order to reach a “more mainstream” audience. While Daniel Defense rifles and products have been featured in various publications over the years, most of those publications were tactical- and/or hunting/outdoor-themed. Popular Mechanics, part of Hearst Direct Media, promotes itself as “the essential handbook for curious, active people” and operates under the tagline “How Your World Works.” Its circulation is 1.2 million, and the magazine is most popular with men between the ages of 35 and 49. Hearst Corporation owns Popular Mechanics and is a fairly republican entity although they did donate to Al Franken and Cory Booker who are very liberal. They also own Cosmo, Oprah's magazine, Elle, and Esquire magazines all which have a soldily liberal bias. To the other end Academy is owned by KKR which is a private equity investment company. One of the main founders of KKR,Henry Kravis is so solidly republican that Trump has mentioned him twice as a person that Trump would like to nominate to be Secretary of the Treasury if elected to the presidency. Kravis also hosted a fundraiser that net $4Mill for the conservative PAC Right to Rise. My point is that large companies are 100% capitalists before anything else. If you traced all the money back to 'parent' companies and boycotted those who's politics didn't line up with yours then there would be very little to purchase.

I personally applaud DD for being that "drop in the bucket" just on principle. Like wise but bet the motivation is dual purpose. It will effect DD way more then Academy. DD just out marketed thier competition by a mile, and it cost them less then a major magazine type ad. Brilliant on DD's part.
