So I have been resistant to purchasing "snake boots" ie something with a kevlar shank and leather uppers or a Chippewa style boot
Of late I have just been wearing my rubber and steel toe mud boots that are about upper to mid-calf high. The milkweed, grass, and other greenery is nearly waist high these days at our hallowed hunting grounds. As such, it takes some serious diligence to watch where you step, if you can see the bottom at all. But until this very moment I have not worried about a snake punching through and getting me.

Do I have a false sense of security or not? Is it very likely that a rattler would/could punch a hole in my rubber mud boots? I don't let the rubber get brittle and I also haven't had a cactus or mesquite thorn through them, ever.

Just curious what the peanut gallery says.

last I checked a rattler bite was about $20K in doctor bills - a good snake boot is $200.

Hadn't put it in those terms. Good point.

Just bought a pair of LaCrosse's 18" waterproof boot last week.....very comfortable and I didn't have to wear them in. I cross a creek getting to one of my sits and didn't want to risk anything. I tried on a pair of Chippewa's but we're not comfortable to me.

I bought the zipper side version of these (currently not on their website, but think they come back around hunting season).

http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/game-win...ldCatid=1098487

They are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn for hunting and they were about $70-80 I think. I was going to buy the Chippewas but thought for $70 why not give them a try. One of them did develop a small water leak but Academy takes them back so I'm going to get another pair as soon as they are back in stock. Haven't tested them against a set of fangs yet so I hope they work!

I bought a pair of the Danner pronghorn snake boots last year. They are pretty comfortable. Time will tell how they hold up.

I got the game winner from academy first. They are comfortable were a little wide for my feet. The next year I got the chips. very very comfortable and fit me well. After a badly broken ankle at the deer least I am unable to wear pull on boots. I sold my Chips on here a while back. Hated to but had no choice.
