So I had my gunsmith install night sights on mine since the rear had drifted way off, extended mag release, ghost trigger kit and polishing some parts, as well as a vickers grip plug with tool in it. Great gun now. But thinking, what else can I do to it? Barrel? Maybe. Or steel guide rod? What's the opinion on the guide rod situation? Brand etcetera.

Barrel may help but minimal. You have the common stuff. I usually change recoil spring but that depends on caliber too.

The mods really boil down to what model, gen and the purpose of gun. For example, if your pistol is a Glock 19 that you intend on carrying on a daily basis I would forgo all the extended controls, trigger upgrades and limit my mods to sights, and a beaver tail. I would leave a carry gun mostly stock due to liability and reliability reasons.
Now if you're talking about a Glock 17/34/35 that is going to be at truck gun/plinking gun then the sky is the limit. I would do sights, trigger, beavertail, mag extensions, grip mods, mag well, etc..
The only way I would change the barrel on a glock is if I wanted to do a caliber conversion on an existing pistol or if I needed a threaded barrel to run a suppressor. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the stock glock barrel.

Sounds to me like you are wanting to do mods to the gun just for the sake of doing it. I would get familiar with the gun first and then mod the things you don't like. I find stock Glocks in very little need of any mods at all.
You could always do one of those custom work bench special stippling jobs to it. LOL

I've owned Glocks for the better part of 30 years...partial to the .45's but have 9mm's and owned 40's too - many multiples of each caliber/model. Everyone has their own opinion. To me, the only upgrade I ever needed was/is night sights. If the Glock I buy doesn't have them, I add them - and only that (well and more mags, holster, and of course ammo).

I'm with misfire. Lawyers will have a ball with you in court if mods are done on a ECD that's used to safe your life. Also I handload thousands of pistol rounds but only carry factory stuff. In other words don't give those bastards anymore to work with as you enter you 2nd fight.

Have you guys actually seen a single case where someone was found guilty of homicide in a defensive shooting because they had a 3.5lb connector, or were carrying handloaded hollowpoints?
I'm going to go ahead and guess no. That's one of those things that is dreamed up by people who have too much free time and is passed around from gun store to gun store. If I am going to be involved in a shooting, it's because I have deliberately made the decision to fire on someone for a defensive purpose. No lightened trigger, extended magazine release, beveled magwell, or micro red dot sight will affect my process of making that decision.

Meh, take any other gun and you'll have people upgrading it left and right. You'll also have people quite happy with them stock- My G17 is basically stock and I compete with it.
M&P? Definitely needs a new trigger, and stippling to offset how slippery these are. 1911? Trigger job, extended and ambi safety, different mainspring housing, maybe a new beavertail and hammer. XD? This Croat piece of junk definitely needs to be changed into a Glock. CZ? SAO conversion. Sig? SRT replacement.
Basically no gun comes into the country in a really ideal form because of cost and ATF import restrictions. So people will upgrade them to make them into the gun they really want. But like I said, even with all the upgrades, there are still plenty of people who will run them stock to great effect.

^^Exactly. I swapped out the trigger in my m&p as soon as I found the Apex unit and never looked back. Have carried it for years. I really prefer the feel of a steel/aluminum trigger over plastic so when I got my g26 I did some research and swapped the trigger for a glock kraft trigger which is basically a machined aluminum trigger with a polished or NP3 coated trigger bar. Everything else stays the same. No reduced pull weight, just an aluminum trigger shoe instead of plastic. I really like it. And of course, the glock got some Trijicon HD night sights too.
