Looking for suggestions for a 308 bolt rifle as a suppressor host that has good accuracy, decent trigger, threaded barrel and won't break the bank. Thanks, Road Dawg

I've never owned a bolt gun so this is new to me. The reveiws on the ruger predator are looking good right now. Does anybody have experience with it?

Savage does a good job at filling those needs and is cheaper than the Remington & Tikka. Just depends on what your budget is.

I think a Mossberg mvp patrol would fit the bill.

I had a Ruger American Predator and a Ruger American. Both were fine for the purpose and shot as good as I needed.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

What about the Ruger Precision Rifle? They're running right at $1k.

Based on what you described, i'd go Savage because... A) remington's and tikka's are noticeably more expensive, especially if one figures the price for an aftermarket trigger for the 700 (which i think is a must). And B) ruger and savage is about the same but I have personally owned a few Savages. That said I am a bit of a cheap arse and don't require razor's edge accuracy as my own shooting skills aren't that precise. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/78093/Savage+11+HOG+HNTR+308+TB
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I have been eyeing the Predator in .308, which has been running around $389 lately. Might do dome swapping! The Savage Hog Hunter also catches my eye but I'm not a Savage guy.

Ruger, Mossberg, TC Venture or Savage are the ones that come to mind fotting the OP criteria. My pick of those would be the TC

I bought a marlin xs7 from cdnn sports for $249+ shipping+ tax= $286. Adjustable trigger, blued barrel, synthetic stock. Put a Simmons 8 point scope on it $350 total. Yes I'm cheap but it shoots great.

Do you want to stick to factory threaded barrels? If so, I agree that ruger american predator and savage hog hunter are both good, cheap options.

What BIL Said: Tikka ctr
Remington 5r 20" threaded
And to save even more the SPS tactical will shoot but " finish" lacks
I have both the CTR and Remington 5R. My 5r is 24", not threaded. I hunt with both, shoot both at the range a lot and gotta give the nod to the CTR for your needs. The Tikka weighs less, costs less, has a better trigger and a 10rd magazine. It shoots light out with factory ammo. My 5R does shoot better, but factor in the weight, >$, no mag....Tikka.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

When you combine the words budget and accurate, the best answer is usually Savage. Others make great rifles too, but it's hard to beat Savage when it comes to accuracy per dollar.

When someone says they're on a budget, I don't think a $950 gun qualifies. But maybe it does? Wish the OP had specified a price range. I'd get a Savage model 11 and get the barrel threaded. You'd be in it no more than $500. Or you could get a 10 FCP-SR for $700, but that's not a budget rifle IMHO.

Ruger American Predator. Shoots well with 150s to 168s, decent trigger, detachable mag, good recoil pad, great length and plenty accurate for hunting. I killed quite a few pigs this past year with mine topped off with a Gemtech HVT.

Browning X-Bolt Suppressor Ready is what I have. I have a SilincerCo Harvester mounted on mine and have had no issues. It has a 20 inch threaded barrel, 4 round magazine, a great trigger and, shoots very accurately. I have shoot mine out to 500 yards on steel with 150 gr Winchester Power Point. At 100 yards I am under an inch. I have some subsonic ammo but have only shoot it at 50 yards just to see change in point of impact.
Highly Recommend the X-Bolt!!!

I have a X Bolt White Gold Medallion in .270 Win., I like it so much I was thinking about the model you have for my next one. I see they come in .223 Rem. with a 1 in 8" twist barrel as well.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
