WOW, talk about a busy and productive spring so far, we're firing on all cylinders to put it lightly. -We have secured 5 ADDITIONAL prime properties for water...fowl hunting for this next season. Taking our individual pond total up to 75-80 ponds per season depending on farming rotation. -We are really excited about how our executive duck club ponds(35+/-) are shaping up for this season. -The spring class of dogs at the kennels are doing great. -We are getting very close to breaking ground on the new 10,000+sq ft hunting lodge/duck camp. -The fishing has just been flat out amazing both drifting and wading. -We have already begun prep-work on some of our ponds for next waterfowl season in regards to managing water levels to encourage aquatic & moist soil vegetation; spring discing & spraying is right around the corner; more pit blinds have been put on order for our club and day hunt ponds; brainstorming is in full effect for which ponds will be planted with what food source and when to optimize the target hunting timeframe; more skid blinds are being engineered with modifications to enhance their ability to blend in depending on each ponds natural cover. We are really excited about the new property pickups that are being added to an already stout lineup of hunting properties. With these new additions we'll be able to rest and rotate properties even more than we have in the past to ensure our clients & club members are going in on the best possible shoots. With properties scattered all over the Matagorda and surrounding counties and with a variety of different food sources, we'll have exactly what the birds are looking for and needing throughout the season. With all the rice that went back into production on properties we have and ones surrounding us, it's just icing on the cake!

This will be my groups first season with them and we,re really looking forward to it. Been battling over crowded, over hunted Houston area leases for years and knowing that the ponds will be properly rested and managed means so much. I was on another club that rested their ponds right and the hunting results spoke for themselves. Things didn,t work out for us there for many reasons but we are confident this club will produce similar or better results.
Daniel is top notch and answers his calls promptly. He,ll actually spend some time on the phone with you too. So many other club owners/managers are hard to get a hold of and even harder to get info from.
Life,s better in waders

We control the controllables to the best of our ability and then let Mother Nature handle the rest. Resting, rotating and preparing(food) are all vital keys to setting yourself up for success when waterfowl hunting. We pride ourselves on our prep-work that we do year around on ponds. We also try and return everyone's phones calls, emails and text as fast as we can. Sometimes we don't get them returned as fast as we can, but that's usually because we're busy doing something to improve the habitat.

those "let go" projects take quite a bit more work and money, but it is very rewarding when youre done and its a nice stand of grain in the fall. it could be worse, could be grown up in tally trees. nice moist soil units too, as good of volunteer millet as you could possibly want

Much more cost effective to stay on top of the projects from year to year than to let them go and have to play catch up. We have had very good luck with getting the millet to re-seed and come back on properties where the geese don't hit them. I think that is because the ducks actually leave some seed behind where as the geese seem to clean things out.

I held water on longer than yall did, didn't drain until a few weeks ago, but am having great re seed growth as well. Id say youre right on the geese, as I don't have to deal with them. millet seed last a lot longer in the water than what people say. The best re growth of jap I have right now is on a pond that I flooded for teal in sept, and didn't take the water off until mid april

Turned a few ponds over yesterday to knock out the useless vegetation and give the good stuff a head start. Great waterfowl habitat doesn't just happen, it's made! Here at Run-N-Gun we make a LOT of it. ***CLICK ON LINK TO WATCH VIDEO*** http://vid288.photobucket.com/albums/ll1...zpst9e0qwco.mp4

Let me know when you get something around the Mansfield/Venus/Midlothian area
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

I left my water on hoping to hold on to some ground moisture so when I drain, disc and plant in August it will have good moisture to work with. Maybe I should have drained and let the volunteer come up.
But that seed head won't still be here when season comes right? It will have shelled out way before then I am guessing?

depending on how well you can control water. you can get it to make 2 or even 3 growing cycles in one spring/summer. just from the first crop id say the majority would be gone to every other critter/bird around. On dry years, ive had some ponds that I quit pumping water into when teal season was over, and that millet grew and put out another seed head right on time for big duck. with this weather we've had, currently have a lot of Japanese volunteer. The plan is to keep water on it until it puts on a seed head, then drain allowing it to hit the mud and it should be just like a mid july planting.

We have received so much rain this year that so far moisture hasn't been the issue. Some ponds are still completely full and we're still trying to decide exactly what we're going to do with them. A lot will depend on what aquatic vegetation grows in them. If it is the good stuff then we'll just hold the water on throughout summer and spot spray what we need to. If not enough good stuff is growing, then we'll drain in late June, disc and plant.
