I've shot a few turkeys, mostly as targets of opportunity when deer and coyote hunting. I currently own an SX3 wood stocked, Maxus black synthetic, FABARM L4S wood and Weatherby SA-08 Camo stock. All are 12 gauge. I want to do more turkey hunting so I'm going to buy a Weatherby SA-459 Turkey. Please don't suggest another shotgun because this is what I am purchasing. Number one, I really like the SA-08 I currently have and two, I get dealer pricing and can get one new for $525.00 including TT&L. My dilemma is whether to go 20 or 12 gauge. I'm leaning towards a 20, can't tell you why, it just appeals to me. Will using a 20 gauge handicap me from 40 yards on in?
I willing be putting an optic on it. My preference is Leupold but I've purchased my alotted number of Leupolds for the year. I can buy four Leupolds a year at 60% off of MSRP. I can also purchase eight Vortex optics a year for the same discount so Vortex is what I will buy for my turkey shotgun. I can also purchase Meopta and Zeiss at a big discount but feel that is overkill for shots at turkey hunting distance. I can get a Razor red dot for $200.00 and a Strike Eagle for $180.00. I'll purchase one of these two because if I don't like them they will find homes on other firearms. $150.00 - $200.00 is what I'm going to spend on my optic and I like these two in that price range. Which one of these two optics would you choose? One is a scope and one a red dot so they are quite different.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

Red dot. Try a Turlock choke and Federal Heavyweight in the 20 gauge.

Ok thanks, the shotgun comes with a turkey choke but I haven't had good look with factory chokes. I buy Trulock Precision Hunter chokes for my other shotguns. If the OEM choke doesn't pattern well I'll pick up a Trulock.
I've read a lot about the Federal and will try them.

Did I read it right??? You are putting a scope on a shotgun for a 20-40 yd. shot???? Are you shooting slugs?
