I'm not sure about the specs, but I have $35 walmart 12v motorcycle batteries in my feeders. They feed 2x/day have solar panels on them & have been supplying power for over 3 years without a hiccup.

I buy my 12v-7 amp batteries($15 ish) at Lyssy & Eckels down here and have a solar panel on all 5 of my feeders. I get 3-4 yr out of mine feeding up to 4 times per day and up to 7 seconds per feeding depending on the time of year and rainfall.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

If you're ever in Rocksprings, the Lowe's grocery store sells them for $14.99. Best price I've seen on them anywhere. Follow stx's advice and put a solar panel on your feeder as well.

Agree with above post that solar charger is the thing to extend battery life. I use Moultrie Feeder with 6 volt bat and solar charger. Have got 4 to 5 yrs out of battery. However did have to use flex alum tubing to keep the varmints from chewing the line running from charger to motor.

How long are you needing it to last between changes? Never seen one that will die before the feeder runs out unless it's over 350lbs or Somethin. I have changed all mine to AA packs and a few I don't check as much are on time feeders with solar strips wrapped around them.

Do you let it run down to empty before charging - and how often?

Two 6volt battery's will last longer than 1 twelve volt.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

Two 6volt battery's will last longer than 1 twelve volt. If they have more total amp hours, yes.

solved problem..12v lawnmower battery at walmart for 20$ northern tool solar panel for 20$ Be sure to fully charge the lawnmower battery with a regular charger before putting it on the system/solar. Solar can only make-up charge (unless it's a really big one).

I charge all our batteries before putting them out if I can that seems to make a difference.
Using 12 volt gel cell batteries I can run nearly the whole season feeding 2 times a day with no solar charger and no recharging.
If you will pull your batteries out and charge them (even if they are on a solar charger) onece a year or so they will probably last longer. I have a 12 volt feeder that's been going for 3 years with the same battery on a solar panel and its running like a top.
Also find a good charger with a float setting so it will not overcharge your batteries, the battery life will be much longer (many more drain/recharge cycles).
It's hell eatin em live

All my batteries come from Interstate. I have no battery drama. I do add solar panels to my feeders. A properly maintained battery (trickle charged) will last a very long time.
Cast I have a short attention spa

The real problem is that when a battery sits on a shelf it can self discharge. When the battery sits on the shelf without a surface charge it begins to sulfate. This begins to ruin the plates in the battery and puts the battery closer to death. I have a special conductivity tester that I took inside two retail stores and over half of their batteries were weak and some were nearly in the bad battery range. When people pick up a battery in the store they do not know the real condition of the plates in the battery. I am working on a deal with a local battery retailer to sell batteries for them for deer feeders. I am going to maintain a surface charge on every battery in stock and also will list the conductivity battery life for every battery sold. Every battery sold will not have had a chance to sulfate.
